drumcorpsfever
rank (in order of importance, 1=highest, max(items)=lowest) Most of your list is admin and staff. I've added a few other things I think you may have missed. Most the folks on this thread have agreed you need a great corps admin. But admin alone, isn't the end-all, be-all. Working along side admin is an active Board of Directors, dutifully run - business-like, and with appropriate powers. An organization that is built like a Fortune 500 company. You also have to be willing to spend like a champion - and keep spending to sustain success. Of course, if you don't have the revenue, sooner or later, you're done. So, therefore, the admin/BOD relationship. corps admin 1 concept - STAFF source music - STAFF mm experience mm talent 4 drill design - STAFF guard design - STAFF music arrangement - STAFF staff reputation- ADMIN/STAFF corps reputation - ADMIN pre-season instruction - STAFF mid-season instruction - STAFF mid-season changes to show - STAFF other (please specify): Board of Directors 2 Cash - and the ability to diversify revenue streams 5 Marketing/Outreach A culture of attracting the best talent and staff - AND retaining them. 6 (Some corps crash and burn membership and continually build year after year. Pick the best - keep the best) Also, I would not include staff with admin. Staff would rank right up there with anything else. However, cash is king. You can hire a lot of folks, but you've got to be willing to pay for them. There's a reason the budgets of top 6-7 drum corps are more than most. Stu
i get it -- but i was hoping to everyone would take a stab at the list. that way we can summarize the results, blah blah blah. i think this could be an interesting thread if we get enough responses. already you can see large differences with some items. I did use the list but just combined items I find of equal importance for numbers 3 and 4; so here is a more expressive breakdown using your designations: 1) Responsible Administration and Board who view this as a business (your designation ‘corps admin’) 2) Financial Accountability with all aspects of the Corps Revenue and Expenditures (your designation: ‘other please specify’) 3) Quality Staff with all equal in importance (your designations: ‘ music arrangement, drill design, guard design, pre-season instruction, mid-season instruction, et al’) note: I do not believe source material nor the concept really matter as long as there is quality staff because great designers can produce great designs based on anything. 4) And with those three categories the rest will materialize (your designations: ‘corps reputation, talented mm, and mm experience’)
