N.E. Brigand
Here is a link to the the article at Cleveland.com, aka the Cleveland Plain Dealer website. Their headline is misleading, of course. Avon Lake is not competing--unless the reference is to how Open Class corps directors each year vote on the best venue in their tour, which Avon Lake has won two or three times of the five they've hosted, but that's not mentioned in the article. If the Avon Lake High School marching band were competing against the DCI corps, if I may judge based on the best performance of their competition show last fall, which was a pleasant enough collection of rock and roll tunes with a little lighting pizzazz, then I would guess they'd score at most a 40. (By my lights, the very best high school marching bands, like Broken Arrow, would score around a 70 in DCI.)
