Our first corps in competition tonight is Impulse from Buena Park, California. Their 2016 program is entitled "Music is______?" and consists of:

Beautiful Dreamer by Foster, Stephen C.

Symphony 25 in G minor (K-183)- Allegro con brio by Mozart, Wolfgang A.

Firebird Suite by Stravinsky, Igor

Great Gate of Kiev (from Pictures at an Exhibition) by Mussorgsky, Modest

It's good to see Impulse making the trip out from the West Coast after so long.

Opening formation has the drums with their instruments off. Horns are sitting in groups of two or three, facing backfield.

The pit opens the show with "Beautiful Dreamer". This has the unintended side effect of reminding me of the Tim Burton Batman movie from the 80s as that motif was used a lot in that movie.

We have a voice telling us what music is before the horns come in. Nice opening statement!

Horns form a front ahead of the field numbers and finish the opening impact. Mozart as an opening impact probably doesn't happen enough.

Nice brief silent drill movement before the horns come back in.

Drum line has spent most of the opener up to this point in the back half of the field, behind the horns and guard.
