Genesis is pleased to welcome Jason Buckingham to our family as the Director of Brass for 2017. "I could not be more elated to have an individual of Jason's caliber join our team. After meeting him I knew he was one of "our" guys and I am really excited for our brass students this season. The guys on this team know their stuff and bring a huge amount of passion to the table...I can't wait to get started!" - Chris Magonigal. Returning to the team to join Jason will be Caption Head Arturo Cano and Brass Consultant Bill Hawkes. Jason Buckingham has worked with school music programs and youth organizations all over the U.S. and the U.K. Currently he is a brass specialist and consultant in San Antonio, Texas working at St. Philips College and Claudia Taylor Johnson High School and her feeders, Tejeda and Tex Hill Middle Schools. In 2008, Jason was selected as the Colorado representative in School Band & Orchestra magazine's annual list of "50 Directors Who Make a Difference" while the Director of Bands at Northglenn High School in 2008. He was a member of the Original London Cast of "blast!" working on the music staff. Pulling double duty; he also performed as a conductor and played cornet, euphonium, keyboards, and didgeridoo. The Original London Cast produced a CD released on the RCA Victor label and taped an Emmy-winning special for PBS while performing at the Hammersmith Apollo in London's West End in 2000. Jason has worked for perennial Drum Corps International World Class Finalists corps including the Boston Crusaders, Carolina Crown. He served as brass caption head for the Blue Knights (1996-01), Troopers (2003-4), Colts (2006-7, 2014-15), and Crossmen (2011-13). As a Caption Head, Jason holds the unique distinction of taking three brass programs from non-finalist status into DCI's Top 12 (Blue Knights '96, Colts '07, Crossmen '12) in two years or less. Jason holds a Bachelor of Music (Music Theory/Composition) from the University of Wyoming, a Bachelor of Music from the Berklee College of Music (Music Business/ Management) and a Master of Music Education from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, the College Music Society, Texas Music Educators Association, and the Colorado Bandmasters Association.
