Your All-Time Top 12

Recommended Posts

It's the off-season. Time to go back to our boring corps-less lives and wait for 2017. In the meantime, I wanted to do an interesting experiment and try to see what DCP'ers All Time Top 12 would be.

What I mean is, from top to bottom of finals, what is your all-time favorite show for each place? Meaning, what's your favorite championship show, favorite second place show, etc.

Mine would probably go like this

1. SCV 1999 - Inventions for a New Millennium

2. Cavaliers 2010 - Mad World

3. Cavaliers 2007 - And So It Goes

4. Carolina Crown 2008 - Finis

5. SCV 2005 - Ballet for Martha

6. Madison Scouts 1999 - Jesus Christ Superstar

7. Bluecoats 2007 - Criminal

8. Boston Crusaders 2011 - Revolution

9. Madison Scouts 2011 - ReFramed

10. Blue Knights 2014 - NoBeginningNoEnd

11. Glassmen 2007 - Gitano

12. Crossmen 2012 - Fragile

I was surprised by no BD and no Cadets on my list - likely caused by them occupying the top spots at Finals so often. What would your All Time Top 12 look like?

1. 1993 Madison Scouts-First corps I ever saw live, and knew in that moment I wanted to be part of it.

2. 1990 Blue Devils-Tommy-between the brass book, and those soloists, wow!

3. 1995 CadetsTo this day, my favorite use of all elements in a show

4. 1991 Santa Clara Vanguard-Miss Saigon, enough said, IMO

5. 1983 Madison Scouts-Love Memory from Cats

6. 1987 Cadets-Appalachian Spring, beautiful!

7. 1997 Santa Clara Vanguard-So underrated, IMO

8. 1976 Blue Devils-So ahead of its time

9. 1991 Cavaliers-Could watch this show every day

10. 2014 Blue Devils-might be higher in the future in a list like this, but still love this show historically

11. 1995 Blue Devils-Carpe Noctem!

12. 1992 Star of Indiana-Give me that cheese any day, still a great show

I think you might be misunderstanding what I was getting at, even though that's a great list.

I was trying to ask what's your favorite show for each placement. Such as:

1. Your favorite first place show at finals.

2. Your favorite second place show at finals.

3. Your favorite third place show at finals.

.

.

12. Your favorite 12th place show at finals.

My top 12 is a bit 1990-present day heavy, but that's the times when I started watching this activity. It is a collection of MY FAVORITES!!!

1) Blue Devils 1996 "Club Blue: A Gangster Chronicle" (Just came out and threw down from the first note)

2) Star 1993 "The Music of Barber and Bartok" (This really could have been my favorite 1st place show, but I'll play nice)

3) The Cadets "Our Favorite Things" (A different, yet fantastic arrangement of Malenguena)

4) Carolina Crown 2011 "Rach Star" (Nothing but fun in this show, and the excellent performance)

5) Scouts 1997 "The Pirates of Lake Mendota" (I don't know that there has ever been a louder crowd response to a show, than the end of that show on Finals night)

6) Crossmen 1992 "Songs for the Planet Earth" (First show that I really "fell in love with," and realized I wanted to do this activity.)

7) SCV 1992 "Fiddler on the Roof" (Bottle Dance!!!)

8) Bluecoats 2008 "The Knockout" (That percussion feature with the basses just throwing down at the start!!!)

9) Blue Knights 2011 "An English Folksong Suite" (The percussion feature with the old time fife feel was awesome!)

10) Velvet Knights 1992 "Magical Mystery Tour III" (Still miss these guys, and the way they just did what they wanted regardless of what others thought)

11) Boston Crusaders 2005 "Ode to Joy" (A fun show)

12) Crossmen 2012 "Fragile" (Back in Finals after too long of a lay-off, move to Texas, and the thought by some alumni that the group would never make it "back")

When we had fan network, any of us could look at these lists and view or review any of these shows. But alas, for newer fans like me, I have no idea about any of the shows prior to 2011, except those I was fortunate enough to see before the demise of fan network.

I loved fan network so much and miss it even more. I didn't know what I had.
