  1. Show titles for a DCP alumni corps: ”Old Man Yells at Cloud” ”The Hatred of Thunderous Goo” ”No Prancing - My Knees Can’t Take It!” Seriously though, I wonder what an all star tribute corps would be like? Instead of being the hallmark of one org, have a group of alums who organize in the next several years to pay tribute to great designers and leaders who have passed away. What a blast it would be to play a perc feature from the Floats, tap into a Jim Ott brass chart, do some Zingali drill… Heck, just creating a list of iconic moves and sounds from all captions across the span of 50 years or so would be an interesting project.
  2. Apology isn’t needed or expected. Skepticism is good. Maybe you should reach out to PRs board and ask the questions you posit here about metrics and goals. I think we all acknowledge how important it is to have clear goals, an objective evaluation of ROI, and guardrails that attempt to protect the org from financial or institutional failure. And we’ve all seen how these protections may not be enough in some circumstances.
  3. Every major nonprofit has dev director roles, and if they are big enough they also have dev support staff. A director of development is good at research for potential untapped revenue streams, not just limited to donors and grants. They also write grants and coach organizational leadership in making the ask in a way that generates ROI. Some dev directors earn only a percentage of revenue from development including grants and direct fundraising. Some folks think it’s so easy to get funds by suggesting org leadership should just do the asking, but we see every year how that isn’t the case. A board’s fiduciary responsibility is to put development in place, and that usually means some kind of development professional, either internal or contracted.
  4. Thank you for 20 years of dedication, determination, and fellowship in this community. We owe you so much more than simple gratitude. I hope your next endeavors are filled with joy! Thank you also for sending the site into the future with another great supporter of the activity. I look forward to the continued presence of DCP under Kevin’s stewardship!
  5. Two I’ll mention: 1) Appalachian Spring (SCV 1983) was what got me hooked on Copland. Even wrote my grad school thesis on his Piano Fantasy. 2) Hymn of Acxiom (Bluecoats 2014). Loved it, found the original, immediately started planning on how to arrange it for the high school choir where I was teaching at the time. Played it for my students, and they were amazed by both the music and the message.
  6. HLD, Trooper! It’s been a great ride recently for our home corps, and I hope they keep up the momentum. The storylines listed by the first response are a good redux of some of the major happenings. I would add the storyline of Bluecoats pushing the electronics envelope, creating questions (for me anyway) about how to judge fairly what is live and what isn’t. That said, their 2024 production (Change is Everything) is AMAZING in my view. I still get chills watching or just listening. I’m not always a big fan of what they put on the field, so when a show hits me like that I pay attention. It’s been awesome watching Boston strive toward their first win. BOOM! was a great show, though not my favorite of their recent shows. For me those are 2018 (SOS) and 2022 (Paradise Lost). Battalion and Music City have made such great progress the last few years. Phantom’s 2024 show (Mynd) is also amazing. Check that one out. And their 2021 reboot of one of their most iconic shows (2003’s Harmonic Journey) is also a great listen.
  7. Having volunteered on food crew for Troop a few times, what I saw is that it is a nonstop operation just to feed one corps the calories needed. I do believe DCI (or at least some corps?) consolidate large deliveries through Sysco when possible to reduce costs. I’d love to see a 5 minute mini documentary about drum corps food service. Those people are the hardest working volunteers in the entire activity, IMO. Anyway, G7 is very old news, and I’m glad it never got real traction.
  8. This show means a lot to so many people, and your note is beautiful. Thank you for what you said here.
  9. That goal will likely not be really known until they can get a quote on a purchase and what it will take to build it out and stock it. I donated during the Rivalry.
  10. Since he said so today on his social media, I would also believe this.
  11. 92 by far is my favorite of the two. More than that, 92 Madison is one of my all time favorite drum corps shows. The entire thing is just so good, but the drum break, horn reentry, and tempo pick up to the end gets my heart racing every time!
  12. I’m a Trooper alum but I’m not in the know about the inner workings of the corps. I presume this is based on a connection to the community band folks in Costa Rica and I also presume that they are looking for talent outside of the high school age range - folks who can likely be here during the school year in CR. And because it is a partnership with a group in CR I also presume there has been the offer of space and maybe even some cost deferment. I think this is awesome and I hope it bears fruit.

  14. Just quoting for two reasons: 1) Gotta like stuff about the home team, and 2) can we get back to the topic of staff announcements? Gender stuff is worth talking about - but maybe in its own thread please?
  15. You went to Spring HS?! That rivalry was well known in Houston. I went to Jersey Village a million years ago. We were never very good. (In the 1980s)
