That said, can you (or someone else who is knowledgeable) remind me how long this training takes, and what it costs to get someone properly trained? Is it a box that contract-drivers could complete in an hour or two, or is it more involved, with background checks and such?

Grandson plays travel baseball. They have local fundraisers and have a sponsorship deal with a local restaurant. It’s an easy sell because all of the players are local (within a 15-20 mile radius). The parents kick in a lot as well.
The problem with Drum Corps following this model is that very few members of any Corps are from the local area - How many BAC members are from within 50 miles from Boston? How many Phantom members are from Illinois (let alone Rockford)? Hard to sell to local businesses if none of the members are local.
