  1. I see it this way: I hope it’s not AI, because we should AT LEAST be able to expect arts organizations - if no one else - to understand why it’s so urgent to be paying artists right now instead of taking cheap AI shortcuts. I know it seems small, and it doesn’t take away from the members at all. But what makes it urgent, to me, is that we (should) want the young people in this activity to have a chance to make a living at this stuff as they grow up - be it music, dance, design, photography, whatever. We should want all of it to have a future. That’s going to entail paying people - hiring graphic designers for measly 30 second promos, for example. If actual *arts organizations* normalize opting for AI instead of supporting their own arts ecosystems by paying human artists, there’s no stopping every other sector from doing the same - in fact they already are, and it already sucks. If we can’t expect “human creation > AI” to be a basic principal of this activity - an activity founded on the joys of live performance, real musicians, real dance, and arts education above all - then, truly, what is the point? I have been a proud BD fan for over 30 years. This is not a question I ever expected to be asking of my favorite corps.
  2. Traveling in Europe…. got to see a run-through…. you’re killing me 😭
  3. I stay off of here on the off-season but have been activated by the word MURDEROUS like Frankenstein’s monster getting hit by a thunderbolt
  4. Respectfully, that’s not how they said it. Statements made about one corps’ process are not implicitly shade toward anyone else’s process. Arguing otherwise is - I’m sorry - immature and bad faith, even a bit self-centered: How do you hear BD staff talking about BD and make it about you? BD literally sat in the stands and rooted BAC on earlier in the summer during their West Coast tour. BD fans on DCP, including myself, have been extremely supportive of other corps all summer, including and especially Bloo and BAC. This is the kind of willful misinterpretation that I’m talking about. Meanwhile, if a BD fan were to point out that the last 2 seasons of BD losing to BAC doesn’t nullify the previous 70-whatever years of the reverse, it’d be considered “mean.”
  5. Ya but again ….. teen/college age people, even people in their 30s, are not really a part of that history. I really want to reiterate that the social media era is a different animal than whatever a BD member said to someone else on retreat 30 years ago. There’s simply no world in which the *current* BD mm’s deserve to see people constantly rooting for them to fail, and there’s no pre-history that justifies that.
  6. Fair enough, and the history there is real, but I do think there’s a side of this getting downplayed. Look at the comments section under any BD post on youtube, reddit, etc - those rando 15 or even 25yos are not saddled with the same history of “BD treated us like jerks in the ‘70s” that you see people bring up a lot. They aren’t cruel because BD or its fans did or said anything in particular to them. They’re cruel because they’ve convinced themselves that they’re “punching up” at the big dog when they do so. When I say “people who’ve made hating BD their entire personality,” that’s who I’m talking about. BD fans are not victims - obviously, being the most dominant figure in any activity comes with its fair share of scrutiny and criticism. But I don’t think we’re having this conversation honestly if we ignore that, in 2025, most of the ad hominem cruelty you see right now is directed at BD, not by BD or its fans, and the comment sections are again ample proof of that.
  7. Nashville works for me because I like eating there, and DCI finals should be held in places where I like to eat, IMO
  8. Yeah I was gonna say … Feel like people shouldn’t assume he isn’t already getting feedback helping him with pronunciations… and it definitely can't be assumed that he’s open to such feedback…. A legend for sure but it’s always better to retire with grace.
  9. Isn’t the argument for including a Visual award, though, that it gives us two visual awards total (Guard + Viz) to match the 2 that music already has (Brass + Perc)? It feels like the goal was to make them even, and that adding another music award would defeat the purpose of that.
  10. Was actually more of a dig at someone else! Ultimately you’re in the family whether you want to be or not, because you’re so associated with BD now that just yesterday someone else with a Crossmen avatar caught strays because they were mistaken for you. 😅 So maybe you’re the Joker, but there’s a reason the Joker is in so many of the movies. Anyway see you on Thanksgiving I guess. Bring cranberry juice in a CAN, please.
  11. lets just let BAC have their moment sheesh
  12. Had Bloo won it before last year? I can’t remember
