  1. Missed the company front in my first competition, 1986 Troopers. Just 60 horns lined up with me trailing behind.
  2. Pat was one of the best. It's hard to put it any better than that. You don't run into people like her very often in your life.
  3. A good HBCU program spends 100% of their effort on reaching a their audience. They do not take their audience for granted. That goes from defining their style, musical arrangements, visual design, rehearsal technique, and on and on. Watch when JSU and Southern square off for their home games. BoTB on Friday, zero quarter before the game, pregame, halftime, going at each other across the field the entire game, then fifth quarter. That is maximum effort on behalf their fans. And it happens all over the HBCU conferences every week.
  4. This has been bothering me for some time, now. And I have to say something about it. Back in my day, we didn't need these fancy food trucks. We scrounged in the dumpsters of the VFW's and hunted for deer and squirrels. That was REAL drum corps.
  5. I hope I'm not sharing insider information here, but apparently at Allentown Troopers will add in some visuals where The Trooper kills PR's 08 DM with a light saber on an oil derrick.
  6. I think that would be the proper venue. A rule can't make that happen, but could conceivably force DCI to move from LOS if taken literally, if I read it right
  7. The practical part of it makes sense. But what would happen if the law passed, and then LOS couldn't get power? Seems kind of a pointless thing.
  8. I'm interested, in a non-urgent-or-important way, about the proposal to require LOS to provide power on the field. I guess that rule could pass, but given that it's out of DCI's control what LOS does, what's the point?
  9. I remember a viola madly cramming kleenex in her ears when we came out on stage for the rehearsal. It seemed like the orchestra brass were having a little more fun, though.
  10. I take that back. They were 5th. Loved 'em. I second everyone else who said 1988 VK.
  11. I would say swashbuckling pirates may not be too many degrees away from dark cowboy types.
  12. 1989 PR should win this. And I don't say that because I was a member. It's only with the most careful, dispassionate consideration.
  13. Glassmen are a great story. From a small corps getting ovations for playing off of retreat to "Just a Gigolo" in 89 to a finals regular...
