This is such a garbage take. Crown was 2nd in percussion in 2009 and in the hunt all year for the Sanford. Crown was a destination for top percussion talent for all of Beddis’s years there. That dipped for a couple years, but was happening again when Peterman and Schack ran the drumline. The reality is the brass team rules the roost at Crown, so any percussion team who comes in there will have to be happy merely playing a supporting role to the brass ego.

Crown's website announcement still lists Hannum on the creative team. I assume in an advisory capacity? This will be an interesting recipe.

According to my sources, the impetus here was that Hannum decided to retire. And rather than promote Travis and his guys, they apparently decided to move on entirely. Probably to get someone with more of a big name.

I thought SCV's show was about as straight-forward as it gets. The seasons.

But they also have (that I know of) the highest tour fees out there, and in a lot of cases by a huge margin. It seems like both of those things shouldn't be true.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but the irony is in 2013 when they won gold with a 6th place percussion section, they still won Music Analysis and swept GE Music.

This is a weird hire to me. From what I understand, the vast majority of his design background has been either writing for battery or doing sound design. Not front ensemble writing. He has done it, but his highest profile gigs have been either battery (Mandarins, Arcadia HS) or sound design (MCM, PR). Perhaps he's actually primarily doing sound design, but the website lists him as the front ensemble arranger, which, since all the electronics are in the front ensemble, I guess is technically true.
