  1. In your opinion, what would you say BD has done/innovated that no one else has done?
  2. Several years ago I posted a topic asking if BD has been an *innovator* in the activity (meaning have they done things that no one else has done), or are have they been a *winner* and just really good at winning. One thing that I have learned since then is that BD was definitely an innovator with the way that they introduced staging, and not using dots for their drill. One can argue whether those have been changes in the activity for the better, but they definitely were innovations. And we all know that they are extremely good at winning, so maybe it’s both?
  3. Not workin’ anything, Chief. I was perfectly fine to let the topic rest (at the request of another poster), but people, including you, keep responding, so it never rests.
  4. Thanks, Jeff - I appreciate the response. But I’m not arguing it’s just the one factor. I even posted a screenshot from AI that listed more than one factor (not that that’s the be all end all, but I’m saying I posted it, knowing full well it says there are several factors, including rights). My new buddy, on the other hand, emphatically said that rights have *nothing* to do with the demise of showing halftime shows on broadcast football games, specifically bowl games. The point that I am making is that rights have in fact played played a part.
  5. I’m with you, Jeff - I totally understand this. You don’t have to say it any slower for me…
  6. I’m not ignoring anything. However, you seem to be ignoring 3, as the original point was that rights *do* have a bearing on why halftime shows are not broadcast anymore - to which you have said “they don’t”.
  7. So the cost of rights has an impact on the decision not to show halftime shows at bowl games anymore - right?
  8. Why don’t corps just pay the additional money for hotel rooms for the bus drivers, especially if that is a pain point? Doing a very quick and rough estimate, if a corps uses say five drivers per day of the tour, and five hotel rooms per day at $150 each are needed, that’s $750 per day for hotel rooms. In a six week tour (five week for some), that’s $750 x 7 x 6 =$31,500 total for hotel rooms for the tour, or only about 13% of the cost of renting the busses/tractors. And in comparison to an entire budget, that’s a drop in the bucket. Why wouldn’t a corps want to make sure that their only means from getting the corps from one place to another safely are being taken care of? People say all the time that props are not a big expense in a corps’ budget - it seems as though bus driver hotel rooms aren’t either (and also way more important to a successful season than props ever could be).
  9. So all of this to say that rights have a hand in why halftime shows are not shown during bowl game broadcasts anymore? You could have skipped all of this conversation and just said that you agree. Efficient communication is a skill.
  10. When did anyone ever say in this conversation that broadcast networks don’t want to show halftime shows anymore because of the cost of rights involved in producing a digital copy?
  11. So please tell me how mechanical rights apply in this situation - I’m dying to know. Or performance rights for that matter.
  12. I gotta admit - most of the time I really have no idea what you are trying to communicate. You use an awful lot of words to say very little. And BTW, mechanical and performance rights have nothing to do with what we are talking about here.
  13. Or, it could actually be due to…broadcast rights.
  14. I don’t even understand what you are trying to say here. Are you saying that the reason they don’t show parts of shows at halftime any more is *not* because of broadcast rights of rep? Are you saying that bowl games did *not* show chunks of each show at halftime?
