At one point during the Rockford Concert in the Park, the snares got a little too rambunctious during one of Sam Pilafian's solos, and she quickly snapped her sticks out to either side to hush the boys up without missing a beat. I believe it's appropriate that her college major is Wildlife Management.8 points

Those all sound like staff issues – controllable issue. The staff let the fans and the marchers down by not being ready, not managing their timeline better I understand that some years, things may happen but most often, it’s always the same corps that are not ready on time. I do feel its part of their strategy or perhaps their arrogance For those that want to grow the activity and preach the selling point as it’s excellence, it’s not very excellent. And it is disappointing to the fans in the stands, not a very good selling point at all The corps that are not ready at the first show should go on first and not get a score. They should not be judged at all, no feed back – they should be un-judged exhibition only.4 points

Its this very frame of thought that will end DCI. I know thats dramatic, but the fans come FIRST. We want fans to stay and continue to attend shows. If this wasnt important, then Cesario wouldnt have made it a point to say something about it. I didnt realize i was being so egotistical by expecting corps to be done by the time the season starts. Really dude?4 points

I just love how some people think that their $35 ticket purchase means that the Cadets, and other corps, must have completed shows with all the details in place. If you want to see all finished products (out of 6 corps) then only go to shows where the corps guarantee you a completed product. I can't imagine that happening anytime soon in the early part of the season. The tail doesn't wag the dog. I realize fans pay money to see these shows, but it's not like you are getting nothing. Of the 6 corps at the Akron show, most will have 90% of their program completed. That's not bad for early in the season, and I would rather see quality over quantity. It is competition, so each corps has a RIGHT to develop their show at their pace in order to have the best chance of winning, or at least placing as high as possible. You, the fan, attend because you wish to see that COMPETITION, but you DO NOT have the right to change the timeline of the corps' developmental stage, show design, or to hamper their progress all for the sake of your $35 ticket and your ego. Get over yourself and your NEEDS! It's about the needs of the corps and the marching members. If that doesn't float your boat, then stop going and don't let the door hit you in the butt. Nobody is forcing you to attend. A lot of people pay money to see a show, then it rains, and then they end up seeing a stand still concert. Tough luck, yes; but the money they spent on the ticket isn't going to change the weather, nor is it going to change the process for show design, supplies, staffing, and it certainly isn't going to change how fast the corps can learn the show. These very complicated shows of today take time. If the entire activity decides to lower the demands and to set a ceiling on such things, and if they put in place a clause that stipulates when a show must be completed, then you can complain.4 points

To keep the fan's suspense going, the DCI Finals scores announcement this year will be delayed until Dec. 25th. (The Cadets hope to be announced as winners )4 points

No other hornline would attempt the things that Crown is doing this year. Triple tonguing fanfares on the move at 196, ridiculous runs in all sections, twelve tone series licks at piano, also on the move, rapidly alternating chromatic runs and lip slurs, etc. If you don't understand or appreicate the difficulty of the "effects" that those kids are actually pulling off pretty well at the beginning of June, then you need a new set of ears. Is it perfect? Of course not. But it's gonna be pretty #### impressive come August, and I can't wait to hear where they go with it!4 points

In the future, everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes." - Andy Warhol The Future is Now. The 2012 Cavaliers step into their next 15 Minutes - Exploring the Silver Lining of, and the Monster better known as, "Fame." "Procession of the Divo" The camera clicks and the DIVO enters in this Juxtaposition of the Modern Celebrity set against the unexpected Classic entrance of DON JUAN. "The Fame Monster" It's all about the $$$ and Greed. The tension mounts musically; ELVIS is DEAD, Long Live DON GIOVANNI! "I'll step on anybody to get what I want - It's going to be a bumpy ride!" "Out Here, on My Own" The title says it ALL. Fame is a Prison, but the show must go on - Laugh, Clown Laugh. "King of the Mountain" A Celebration, an Embrace...a CLIMB to Fame that Explores the NOW of music. From GAGA to Electronica and back and forth (and back and forth). In the Now, WE ARE ALL FAMOUS FOR THIS 15 MINUTES.3 points

None of this will matter in a week! Let's take a breath and see how everything plays out. Enjoy the start of what's shaping up to be a great season!3 points

well the people that appear to be the most okay with this seem to be former Cadets... which is strange I suppose, since the Cadets are a corps with arguably one of the highest performance and work ethic standards, yet those standards seem nowhere to be found right now and they get a pass from the ones you would expect to demand the most.3 points

I agree that when the staff is late with their show, they are cheating their own members3 points

No not every detail- but we marched and played a full show- pretty #### well. That was part of the excitement of marching and being a fan. You still got - for the most part- complete shows; however, we were still able to tweak and change things "wholesale" if we had to during tour. I remember in 91 hearing SCV not having a complete show on the field for part of first tour- it was a pretty big deal then...now it seems to be accepted that it is ok. For my money it is not. Did you even read what I was replying to? No one -- not the Cadets and not anyone else -- *only* practices something at full speed. That's ridiculous. When you're breaking down visual stuff you drop the tempo to a spot where the marchers can get through it. Then you build up. In 30 yrs I've never seen someone teach and or clean things *ONLY AT FULL SPEED*. It would be .. well.. stupid. As for the battery *only* playing at tempo, yeah that's what's currently done. And it's CERTAINLY what every battery tech in the world would have you believe. And it's the ideal way to operate -- for them. "Dude it's written 192 -- it can't be played at 180". Oh yeah? Then why did the battery just drop the tempo 10 clicks at the last show? I thought it's impossible to do?!? Like I said, don't get me started.3 points

OFFICIAL CAROLINA CROWN POLICY ON VIDEO. Hey Guys, Here is what we are going to do in regard to posting videos. Feel free to post videos on DCP "as you please." The only time we are going to ask somebody to take a video down is if it is: 1) A full show in uniform or 2) A full show in uniform posted in parts (1 of 3, 2 of 3 etc...) or 3) Posting a "ripped" copy of one of our purchased performances (Fan Network or Crown Tour product) Please respect that. Also, please realize that purchasing the Fan Network or buying a corps APD's, VPD's, CD's, and DVD's supports the corps directly. Merchandise is one of the vital lifelines we have and we hope that you continue to support all the drum corps in that manner. So, with that said... POST AWAY.3 points

No, it does hurt them…but they will get over it This is a hot button issue for me mainly because I’ve been there and being reminded of it, I still get ###### off We were not ready our first weekend and had to finish our show standing there, marking time. I felt like an idiot, I couldn’t even look up at the stands and I was right up front. It sucked all the fun out of our first show. I was embarrassed. I really hated being put in that position. No one is happy about it, the marchers, the fans, the alumni, DCI, or even the staff But own it and fix it2 points

This. As far as I'm concerned, the brutal honesty of how this situation is being handled = character. Heaven help him if he pushed ahead and insisted on being right and a kid, or kids, got hurt. Imagine the mob that would have turned out for that.2 points

I'm in the area, and have decided to go with a couple of others. I 'll break the piggy bank and take some coin too. It must've cost BAC some coin to go out there and I want to support their efforts.2 points

Man, you've got to go watch some late-90s Cadets videos. Those guys used to throw it all up against the wall, back when difficulty mattered.2 points

I agree to an extent about slotting.... No question it happens and once a corps is "locked" into a spot, the highest caption scores for that corps drop to make sure of it. I dont however believe it's as impossible as u say to beat one of the more traditional G8 corps. We will not see corps 1-7 stay in spots 1-7 for eternity and that's the nature of it. Madison, Phantom, SCV all had slip ups in the 90s or 00s. Corps like Gmen, Boston, BK, Bluecoats and Crown all have made top 6 apperances in years past or currently. It's not unthinkable to see new blood in the upper tier but Academy will have to earn it's due and make finals consistently before a top 6-7 finish is possible. More likely to see BAC. Madison, BK or even BStars in top 7 before Academy.... Wes P2 points

You've got to be kidding me with statements like this. So their not being able to march CADETS TYPE DRILL safely by their first show is grounds for a rewrite? That is NOT how Cadets drill works. You ever hear the expression "practice makes perfect"? I think it's quite time for some people to climb down off the horse because I see in the signatures of many posters who have marched corps who HAVE NOT had their entire show done by their first show.2 points

I love how every Crown drum major conducts just like Matt Harloff. Seriously makes me happy.2 points
