It's a good thing the Blue Devils have some of the most talented members in the activity; because those uniforms are a box 1 mess!4 points

Looks like the Blue Stars have won the award for the best new uniform of 2013. Very stylish, sleek, attention grabbing (without the "umm, yeah" commentary), commanding, and modern. Moreover, the members shouldn't have to question their dignity when wearing them.3 points

On this first day of the 2013 season I just read an interesting article on Drum Corps World's site by John Simpson and his thoughts on B flat VS G bugles. A good read (even for us drummers).2 points

no, that has nothing to do with the pouf of the top. The bottom of their sleeve is as slim as any uniform on the field, all the way up to the elbow, so the pouf as you call it wouldn't do anything to prevent that. It's a "Cavalier" uniform. Look at any cavalier/musketeer/pirate look and they will have this same "mutton" style sleeve. It is keeping with the style of a cavalier of ancient days, just like their iconic Guido logo. And just so you know...this is the same jacket they have worn for the past three years and the same sleeve they have had for years and years. Not new jackets this year at all. just covered up the sash and added black gauntlets.2 points

My exact impression watching this seasoned staff warm up the corps for their Spring Fling performance.2 points

“There’s an old joke: two elderly women are at a drum corps show, and one woman says, ‘Boy, the synths in this show are really terrible.’ And the other one says, ‘Yeah, I know…and the volume on them is way too low!’”2 points

Crossmen were supposed to perform their full show yesterday, but rain prevented that. Battery and hornline did a standstill, but they sound pretty good, IMO. Microphone quality aside.2 points

I've suggested to DCI before that a special album/download featuring "Classics and Encores" would be a huge hit. I'd buy it. Wouldn't you?2 points

Anyone know of used drumline equipment for sale? Corps, Indoor drumlines, colleges, etc.?1 point

I think.. I am starting to really like those uniforms. Also, the Horn Book is ridiculous in a way that I Like. OH Crown, I like the idea of you guys being the ones that plays Stupid Hard Horn Books.1 point

Thanks after the video I just saw, I am going to be excited to hear that MASSIVE run live tomorrow night.1 point

I would imagine they're shuffling them in and out during rehearsals to save their voices. The voice is incredibly fragile, not built for the constant rehearsing of drum corps, plus if one of them injures their voice, what's the corps going to do? That can't be an easy part for someone else to learn on the fly.1 point

Published on Jun 15, 2013 The Colts celebrated the men and women of the United States Armed Forces by participating in the annual Memorial Day parade in Dubuque followed by their tribute concert in Washington Park. The day also marked the public debut of the new uniforms. For new and veteran Colts alike, becoming the first person to wear a new corps uniform was truly a spectacular moment. not only do they have a pauldron like Regiment, they've hi-jacked the right fist over the heart as well ...1 point
-
I think I'd like the sleeve and pauldron more on BD's uniform if it was more fitted. Right now it all looks really floppy. Hopefully that's not the look they're going for, and everything will get hemmed and fitted correctly. Because that could make it look really nice once is all said and done.1 point

It seems like the feather would be a distraction as it sways back and forth when they march...but we shall see.1 point

Seems like BD is copying/borrowing from Carolina Crown who used the feather in the plume a few years back! Oh this horse race is going to be good!!!1 point

I'm glad they stuck with the '10-'12 design. I always thought it made them look mature and sophisticated. The blue bibbers make it look even better. Love it!1 point

Sooo...contrary to what I said earlier, I really do love the ballad without the narration. Really hits on a more emotional level.1 point

Narration in the ballad has not been heard at any ensemble rehearsals (or the preview show) since this video was taken. My guess is the staff thought it needed to be altered. Will it reappear by their first show? TIme will tell! Love this time of year!1 point

I find it very disconcerting when I like BD what I have heard more this early than I do Crown. Someone recently on Facebook called them the Purple Devils. Kinda fits1 point

It would be awesome if someone from DCI made a fan network app for the Roku. Apparently it is pretty easy and cheap (or free) to do. It would be the perfect way to watch shows on larger televisions without having to hook up a laptop or something similar.1 point

I don't understand why crowd excitement should be the conclusive measure of whether a corps is good or not. The volume and type of chord a show ends with is much more indicative of how a crowd will react than whether what they did was "good" or not. I think there is much more to drum corps then ending a show with a company front, marching in half time, and playing at a triple-forte. Will that get a big crowd reaction? Sure ... but we can be more creative than that, can't we?1 point
-
As if they're not already offended by some of the skimpy guard costumes? They'll live. And the corps hasn't stated that they'll be handing out applications for the "Secret Society" or are heaping praise upon it. As far as we know, it could be a show about the G7.1 point
