  1. 'Mike, we'd like you to shut down writing recap analysis until after the season.' 'I'm sorry, Dan. I'm afraid I can't do that.'

  3. The "copyright holders and publishers" did not refuse DCA's request for rights. They refused to sell them at the price offered. The whole reason why copyright exists is to create the marketplace traction necessary to buy and sell intellectual property. DCA's inability to secure those rights is a matter of money only. It may be expensive, but it also is always within the buyer's control. Unless the publishers have some kind of pride-of-authorship revulsion to drum corps and consider DCA an insult to their creations, this was a matter of cash, not pride.

  4. I'll bet thats the case - if we do get a DCI Video of top 12, we should probably jump for joy and be thankful to get that at this point, the way things are going.

  5. This has been bugging me for years with DCI The idea that there is ‘one’ correct style that will be rewarded. I’m amazed that the corps staffs have the judges enforce these trends; well not really as self-serving hypocrisy is the bread and butter of corps staffs. For years, corps have had DCI changes rules for artistic freedom and variety but to achieve good scores, they all have to do the same type of shows…so much for variety and freedom. Stupid stupid stupid. I’m not into the current trend which has grown stale anyway, watching the Cadets trying to be Blue Devils will be pathetic

  6. Honestly, no. I believe it's just an attempt to purify the competition experience for the corps; especially the members. I think the intent is that corps have no doubts that they are being judged solely based on what they put on the field during any particular performance, without concerns they were slotted or that another corps was being advanced based on prior performances. We all perhaps need to see how this plays out to fully comprehend how it's going to work. The proposal received such huge support from the corps, I've got to believe they're on the same page and wish to know exactly where they stand each day of the season based on what they left on the field.

  7. Yes. Identity of style should be maintained as much as possible IMO. MM's that are fully & truly understanding of whom they have invested [emotionally, financially, educationally] may have to concede this year if design elements dictate a shift or stylistic change that is more emulative of competitive peers. Visual color palette scenarios/varieties undoubtedly affect both MM's ability to perform requisite alignment skill sets, as well as the visual judges' perception of proficiency. I prefer Cadets performing in their traditional uniform.

  8. Agree the black concept worked better on paper than on the field. The maroon, gold and cream uniforms had both vertically and horizontally linear connecting of forms with the cream pants emphasizing their great marching technique despite the judge dumping them in proficiency.

  9. The corps control what music they decide to play. Choose what's acceptable.

  10. Is this possibly an issue that DCA does not have the deep financial pockets that DCI does to pay out for these copyrights?

  11. I just cannot get over the irony of this thread title. This will be the last time anything related to DCA video includes the phrase "for immediate release".

  12. You know, when I marched I don't recall caring a ton about caption or sub-captions too often. I trusted our staff to hype us when we scored well, and push us harder when we didn't. Of course, I didn't march during the cell phone/social media age. I did live with RAMD, but I didn't have cell phone/tablet/wifi/etc. to look at on the bus immediately following a show (I might've slept better on a drum corps bus than I do now almost 20 years later)

  13. Well I think it was appreciated by fans. The judges certainly dumped them in some baffling areas especially visual analysis and GE visual. (Or the judge that was more visually oriented). Demand and performance were second to none and I was in the box Saturday night. The visual drill was so demonstrative of the music. Overall the kids loved performing the show and you can't take that away. We'll see how well this new staff adjusts to the staging and guard emphasis the judges reward now.

  14. What a load of crap! How many video's will be bought? Will they sell millions? NO ! Intended for the few people who want a memory of their corps or favorite corps to listen and enjoy. I would love to be able to hear all the recordings of my corps BUT they are locked up in DCI's vault somewhere to NEVER be heard again. Doesn't matter that my friends and I busted our butts every summer to play and march and now we are told, "Haha, we have them and you can't!" Stinks! There will NOT be a Grammy winner from these recordings nor will anyone make millions of dollars. This STINKS!!!!

  16. I'm as progressive visually as they come, but I will be very sad if Troopers "rip the band aid off" with their uniform. Very few outside of the cognoscenti can identify Crown based on their sound. Everyone can identify Troopers based on their look. Mike

  18. I've heard no rumblings, I expect that our other friends from the Metro area will be continuing to play on Yamaha. Unless they've decided to do something different.. " Paging SPANDY or Matty Kalinowski!!!!!" Anyone? Pat
