  1. My son (aged out) and my daughter (current MM), both members of the best drum corps DCI has to offer. Most of us are lucky to have one kid make it, I've had 2!

  2. youre mostly right. the articles are in the DCp archives, I even attended the court hearings. the show was usually DCA/DCI. it had been a handshake arrangement for years, and for the summer of 05, boom a Beyonce date came open and HERco booted the show. no handshake agreement for tops 7k paid will beat what she'd bring i. HERCo tried the public "we'll put her in the arena" PR move, then tried to jack up fees to use the stadium. the show promoters lost in court because there was nothing on paper. It did shed a big spotlight on how HERCO operated, and many groups they did handshakes for soon changed their business practices, bot except for maybe one YEA run show, since 2006 no drum corps shows have been held there. Funny thing is the guy who dicked over 5 Star Brass became one of the management team for the Rochester stadium the following year. Maybe he's why it's the mess it's been

  3. Ok lets clear this up once and for all, "I Go On" is not the name of the show, I know the theme of the show this year. It will absolutely BLOW YOUR MIND but it is not "I Go On", that was just a graphic made by a member of the corps. Now I will tell you, if you look closely, you will find a clue to the theme this year.

  7. BITD, Star of Indiana, most seasons, had outstanding contrabass lines, imo. Before Star ( the late 70's.. 1980 ) the 27th Lancers for a few seasons at their height there, had great contrabass sections, imo.

  8. Ahhhhh, NO. Effect scores were not the issue. Bluecoats need more substance in brass book (substance as defined/acknowledged by the DCI judging community) and better visual performance achievement. Nice attempt to layer in College Philosophy 101 thought process though. Can hardly wait until you get to the 200 level courses....

  9. Just reading the title of the show makes me grin really wide. Not sure how they will do compared to their rivals from previous years, but I think they've found their niche in show design.

  11. I believe this happened in the 90's with DCI. I used to go to the Hershey competition every year (combined DCA/DCI shows) and had my tickets purchased. Then, I got a letter in the mail stating that Hershey was using the stadium for a rock concert instead and that I was getting a refund for my tickets. It really ticked me off because this area doesn't have any good drum corps shows nearby any more and Hershey was very convenient as it was close. Not only did DCI/DCA stop having competitions there, I stopped going to Hershey Park since they seem to care more about making money than keeping their commitments.

  12. Part of that is because they put a lot "out there" in public, which IMO is a good thing. If NONE of the above was stated, and just the end result, then it would look much less frenetic and messy. I prefer to see how the process works, warts and all.

  13. If they played Jeremiah Symphony, they could wear street clothes and flip flops for all I care. That '85 opener was one of the best 6-1/2 minutes of drum corps ever.
