  1. So..."They should stay in Open Class cause they'll "suck" in World Class and I don't want to see, (ie. waste my money) on anyone who can't break 90 by Atlanta!!!" Ok. PS: Drum corps really isn't all about you. PPS: Good luck to Genesis!! I for one look forward to seeing them on the World Class stage!! Really enjoyed the shows they've been putting out!!

  2. You said Barney and I immediately thought of Barney Fife (Don Knotts). I thought it was well done.

  3. Just how in the heck do you think a corps rises to the level of not "mediocre"? Your attitude is full of contradictions: You don't care about them a whole lot, but you enjoy watching them. But you won't spend your time watching them because they're not entertaining, even though you admit they might be bringing something new to the activity. It's really a good thing that your support is going to the groups that really need it, eh? You know, those constantly-financially-struggling top-12 or top-6 that are "the draw". Wow.

  4. You guys are freaking out about new recruiting tactics... when the Cadets signed on a new recruiter for this season. Occam's razor, my friends. I think some of us on here might be a little determined to see strife and disaster where perhaps there is none.A little bird DID tell me that they're bumping up the number of tubas marching from 10 to 12, and that they had SIX ageouts in the section from last year. Between those two factors, and the fact that so few audition for that instrument anyway, that's why things are as you've seen them. I wouldn't be surprised if they're looking for one or two mellos come a little later in the winter either.... but that's just a theory I have. The attendance for the november camp seemed fine though. The memorial brass and the arcs seemed just as big as they always are, anyway, if not a little bigger since they did away with the one day only camps in other places. Yes, tubas have always been a Cadets shortfall. Let's face it, Cadets tubas don't really get featured the way Bluecoats tubas get featured, to name an example. That doesn't speak much to quality of performance or individual skill, but for an outsider looking in, they probably want to go to the place that will give them more attention within the show. Just a theory. The only thing that confuses me about auditions is why Hop didn't periscope the show and tell. Maybe they don't have a media guy signed on yet? I was looking forward to watching.

  5. Some drum corps performances through the years at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, HAPPY THANKSGIVING DRUM CORPS PEOPLE'S 1991 All-Star Macy's Corps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wHNJ8ekF6E 1994 All-Star Macy's Corps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A-geXH4uzg Cadets - 2005 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yZeeJJ1Qnc Madison Scouts - 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJKKy_bsVuc On a personal note, my father marched with the Hawthorne Caballeros when they were in the Macy's parade (1961, 2 ? he doesn't remember) and I marched in the 1994 All-Star Macy's corps. My brother and I also attended the 85th Macy's parade (Weather was perfect)

  6. Heh, I saw [. . . counting, counting . . .] 283 marching band performances live this fall, including two weekends in a row with more than 60 each. For the latter, however, I positioned myself in the last row so that I could stand rather than sit for the performances and not block anyone's view.

  7. I'll whistle a bar or two, but it may sound better on a Fife... (You've got to Taylor the question to the audience at hand)

  11. Hop has said in FB live videos that the show isn't announced yet due to licensing difficulties. I'm pretty sure he said somewhere that Cadets announce early so that potential members know what they're getting into/can be excited to audition for a show rather than a corps, or something to that effect.

  12. While it may or may not be relevant, i'd like to point out the fact that The Academy went from being an Open Class corps to World Class in essentially a single year (2006 to 2007 if I remember right) and they're still going strong.

  13. Sort of a backhanded comment based on your screen name and that BD began doing that long before other top corps, don't you think?

  18. Cadets have announced the 2017 program It's called "100" and the press release says it is "ten times better than our 2015 show" Judging by the drill design - based on all the combinations of divisions of "100" I'd say they are right

  19. Well, they're not doing this for you. ( and it did come off as a negative comment). The other end of the spectrum is a corp like Carolina Crown, who started out in the lower division only to move up and eventually be a world champ. Yes, they were "mediocre" at one time too. If Genesis has the money and structure to do it, who are we to say they can or cannot do what they want?

  20. If you watched any of the OC corps in WC prelims, you'd have seen a dozen corps that came to give you a show. And they did. Most of them outplayed and outdesigned many of the WC groups while utilizing smaller budgets.

  26. Why not some new Latin music? It's right up their alley and there is a ton of untapped music out there. Crossmen and Bluecoats have already tapped into groups like Ojos De Brujo - why can't Madison?

  27. OMG no I did not know Sacktig is writing for Crown this season - had no idea! Sorry!! Wow this really changes things. Cadets will be fine. Now I'm worried how will Crown do with a Cadets drill?? Kinda funny to think about.
