  2. The " funny " was only about how one views perspective( could be about anything ) and how for some means one thing and another something totally different.

  10. I understand. To provide another example, politicians are always talking about how they " want to help the middle class", or their policies if implemented will " help the middle class ". Thats because they know full well that the guy or gal that is currently making $500,000 a year thinks of themselves as " the middle class ", just as much as the guy or gal that is making $200,000 thinks of themselves as " the middle class ". too. Neither thinks of themselves as " the wealthy ". ( to them, thats reserved to those making over a mill per year.. double ) Yet, to a guy or gal that is making $100,000 a year, these people at $200-500,000 are " the wealthy", and they at $100,000 are the " middle class "... and yet to a guy or gal making just $50,000 a year, they are the " middle class", and anyone making over $100,000 a year arn't "the middle class", they're " the wealthy". So now if we've got people making between $50,000 and $500,000 a year in the country, many of whom are thinking of themselves as " the middle class ". Thats a whole lot of potential voters right there to make your political pitch too. And so thats why we daily hear all these politicians talking about how all their proposed plans will.... " help the middle class ". You're right, it is sort of " funny " and its all in one's perspective of where one sits on any totem pole... Drum Corps, or otherwise.

  11. I'm guessing music and/or plot references to "BAZ". This is a musical based on the films of a famous director. Basically: Romeo & Juliet meet Gatsby & Daisy meet Christian & Satine.

  13. So my question is, why do you need announcements to decide if you're attending championships. Show announcements hold no bearing on whether a show will actually be good or not, so why is that a factor in your decision? I understand your situation, being a dual income family with 2 young kids, but there's not a single show announcement, including from the corps that I marched, that will make me decide whether or not to attend the show. Just as I chose to go to finals last year, instead of selling my tickets when Madison did not make finals. I wasn't happy, but I wanted to experience the show night, even if my favorite corps was not performing. Seems odd that show announcements would be an odd reason to not go.

  14. Now, that Boston's Mgt has gone public with info... I can confirm after listening to the Jan/ Feb camps that the music in key segments will be fast tempo'd BPM, intense, fierce, aggressive, and pleasingly and adequately at the fortissimo levels where it needs to be, and soft and controlled in other passages where it needs to be. My early take on the ballad where where a few passages were played this weekend is that it has the potential to be lush and gorgeous. The music for 2017 ( sorry, no naming at the moment )will be new, fresh, very high demand levels required of its marchers to perform and execute, and yet the best part...its a quintessential Boston music show, imo. The music staff seemingly " gets it" in this Boston Crusaders regard, imo . My guess, hearing the fast tempo music in key segments of the show, the drill in segments will be fast tempo'd as well. New Yamaha's for Brass line... yowza.

  15. funny how ones perspective works. To everyone other than the ones you mentioned Cadets record would be an epic success and one the rest only strive to be. All depends on where one sits I suppose..

  16. Ellis has been my drum corps pal for over 50 years. He's "given back" in many ways, by teaching, writing, financial support, and donating his legal expertise "pro bono" continually. I am asking my DCP colleagues to simply help get the word out by clicking here: http://kidney4ellis.blogspot.com In this fraternity, sometimes you just "know a guy who knows a guy". 18. Twenty-five years ago, some professor where I went to college did a study that purported to show, by virtue of the amount of time Astaire spent actually dancing onscreen with his various partners as a percentage of the length of their movies together, that Astaire's favorite screen partner was in fact Rita Hayworth. I think probably that oversimplfiied things (e.g., others besides Astaire had a say in the amount of dance time in a given picture), but it was still interesting. You did indeed spell Cyd Charisse's name correctly. One of her films with Astaire (and the one most liked by film historians) was The Band Wagon (1953), which was also the title of Fred's last Broadway show with Adele. Charisse's most iconic screen appearance is arguably with Gene Kelly in the "Gotta Dance" section of Singin' in the Rain, one of the sources for Madison Scouts' 2015 show.

  25. Can't believe this didn't pop into my head right off the bat. This might not be the direction that Oregon Crusaders go but they use Enigma Variations as the backbone for this show and mix in a ton of other stuff. One of my recent favorite HS shows.
