  1. I agree with you, and your numbers bear that out, but I wanted to throw out the possibility of going for a top 4 corps does not necessarily mean they will be a top 4 corps once you are there. I also wanted to point out that maybe moving to a top 4 corps results in being in a corps that he may not enjoy being with, as for my money, you need to like being where you are. if not, then why do it? What if he goes for (only an example folks) Bluecoats or Crown, thinking they are a lock for 4 or better and Cavies come along and Boston comes along and they drop back a placement. Nothing is guaranteed. I would suggest looking at a corps you like, then try out for that one. Not a "any top 4 will do" kind of approach. That probably happens but it isn't the path I would take.

  2. I kind of agree and not just that thread. The problem is who defines who is a bully? I know one that has gotten away with murder on here since the site was created

  3. Is this a" Cadets 2018 " thread discussion, or some previous year's Cadets thread for venting and discussion ? Methinks its become the latter of late with lots of complaints and finger pointings about recent Cadets underperformances. Any chance this thread can be put back to a more forward looking discussion of " The Cadets 2018", or is this perhaps asking for too much here on this thread ?

  4. If I had to choose I'd say Boston for continuing. This is pretty tough to answer as each show had parts I liked and those I'd rather not see again. So I'll choose things from each group I want to continue and those I want abandoned. Continued: BD - Entertainment factor, Uniforms, Emotional appeal SCV - Drill, Highly technical colorguard, Visual design in general Crown - Drill, Uniforms, The Opener The Cavaliers - Entertainment factor, Uniforms, Star of Indiana jokes Bloo - Music selection, Crowd appeal Boston - Pretty much everything. Some more meaty programs, but they get a pass since it was their first year with the new crew Abandoned: BD: Rihanna, Difficulty of drill (I didn't think it was easy, but they can handle more), SCV: Uniforms, Giving most of the brass contributions to a group of miced players, Constant percussion breaks Crown: SINGERS, Boards that trip up the members as they march, Percussion tag endings Cavs: Short musical phrases, annoying sound effects Bloo: Uniforms, playing a ballad through mics and speakers, Giant immovable props that shake when the members move on it, Covering one of the best tuba lines in DCI with synth Boston: Like I said they get a pass

  8. what i am saying is....there is no perfect solution. Posters will do what posters will do. The admin team has real jobs, so they don't sit here and monitor the place 24/7 like a Russian Bot factory. Odds are until someone reports something they don't even know. To me, it is what it is, I don't mind it. I don't personally think the wheel needs re-invented, and honestly, I'm not sure what to suggest to re-invent it. If it gets too confusing, people go away, then it's the same 30 of us all year round, not just the off season. I mean look at the DCP Facebook page....same #### put up time and time and time and time again. It's the nature of the beast.

  11. The best? The best at what? The best can be defined many ways. As a parent, I'd urge you to urge your child to precise about what "best" is before he or she follows the crowd to the best and misses something better. Best might be winning a championship. Or it might not. Is being second - or fourth - best? Or more to my point, is there any doubt that doing my best is the best? If my best helps others to be their best, isn't that the best we can do? My opinion ... And it's just my opinion ... I can't speak about you and your child... My opinion is too many young people make the selfish choice. They seek out the prospect of ever more elite credentials. And for what? A summer last year at Crown or Bluecoats was several placement spots better than the six through 12 corps. But was it better? The best? HH

  12. So start new threads and don’t worry about how other people post, lead by example and see if it takes I can’t help but to feel this all based upon trying to control the content of the Cadets thread so it rubs me wrongly, it seems really disingenuous to claim the entire site would better but overall I don’t care but

  13. We talked about Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique tonight in one of my graduate music history courses. I know it’s been done before on the field but not quite in the way I’m imagining now after digging into that work and discussing it. The idea of the fixation on an idea, his issues with drugs and mental problems, the programmatic nature and story of the work, and the general idea of the fantastic in French literature at the time would make a very exciting basis to set a show in. And of course the music is great.

  16. Blue Devils the most. The music book = LOVE! I do love watching Crown's opening 3 minutes or so, SCV's last 4 minutes or so is sheer amazement, and Bluecoats music in the opener and closer is a thrill.

  20. Trust me it is. No singing. Fast powerful aggressive brass and thundering percussion. Probably the most vets out of any corps. Close to 100 Likely going to a more traditional crown uniform
