  3. Sleeper pick: little Jeffrey (Goeffrey?), with the Red Queen in the mix. Maybe Sarah as a dark horse. Good grief, the cringey characters he's placed on the field.

  4. I agree with this. I still think our drum corps are leaving money on the table by not using web media better. I get so tired of this crap about show reveals and keeping everything hush hush...blah blah blah. Like who cares. Sure, you have copyrighted materials that cannot go public, then no problem. But there is plenty of rep they could post. Some corps do at least provide some content for donors, and that is completely fair. I don't know, but I think a lot of people would pay a few dollars ($2 - $5, maybe $10) per camp for access to some inside clips (audio and video).

  5. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

  6. You're phrasing was fine. It's just that those who have attended a portion of various corps ensemble's on Sunday, will give very little info about show themes and such. Their replies would make a veteran politician jealous.

  8. It was great. We enjoyed everything about the day. Everything. No Percussion, No Guard present this weekend. Just Boston's brass staff working the 2018 Boston Brass Line.

  9. Good point. Keeping it a bit vague allows more people to connect to (or project onto) the show.

  10. Generally, I'd agree with you. But when these titles get long winded, it has a tendency to box the concept in because it's more specific than say... "Machine", or "Tilt". It can set expectations from both an audience and adjudicating perspective. IMO, of course.

  11. I dunno, it might depend on who the VA judge was that night.

  14. What's in a name? Why is the name such a big deal anyway? That's less important than how they execute/design their show anyways.

  15. I want more cheesy narration. Extra credit if it tries for some deep meaningful message. I also want more thunderous goo. Loves me some electronic generated sound so loud it drowns out the entire brass line. That's drum corps!! And can you please get me more props. Like tarps covering the entire field, or various jungle gym-like structures taking up lots of space. And for something new, because "evolving" = good, how about reaching into the BOA ranks and bringing some go karts to the field.

  16. I have just learned one of my students was offered a contract this past weekend. As an FMM, I couldn't be more proud. I look forward to seeing him grow in the marching arts with one of the finest organizations in the activity.

  17. Good article. Yes, it's important for the artists in this activity to find ways to fund their passion. Post season withdrawal is a drag. I would readily shell out cold hard cash for more access to what is going on with each organization, in the off season. Anything. It doesn't have to be show reveals or copyrighted stuff. Show me some brass lines doing tuning sequences... batteries and front ensembles warming up. Throw in a few flag tosses from the guard. Anything to see/hear how the performers are. Many of us miss being MMs. Bring back some good memories for me. I'll pay.

  18. Hi All Cadence are really looking forward to coming over to DCA. I spent the weekend at the DCA meeting in December and was bowled over by the love for drum corps in the room and the friendship offered by all directors. We are aiming to make class A finals of course but if we don't there is no sweat. Thee experience is the main thing. See you all in August.
