  1. @DrumManTx is writing about his experiences as an intern for Bluecoats! Congratulations, Landry! Well done! https://www.drumcorpsworld.com/publications/2018/june_15/#page=21

  2. I was actually about to post this to explain where I’ve been and introduce myself for real but it seems @Terri Schehr beat me to the punch! I said it all in the article but I am so lucky to have the opportunity to work with such an incredible organization this summer. The members, staff, and volunteers are all such incredible people. It’s hard work but the people I get to interact with and getting to be around that incredible thing that goes on on the field the whole summer? So worth it. This has truly been a life changing experience thus far and getting to write about it and share this experience? Wow. Don’t know what I did to deserve this. But. :) If anyone wants to meet up at a show shoot me a message!

  4. Alright, I’m on board with this growing into a potential championship show. I’m actually a little unsure where the confusion posts are coming from —- it’s a pretty clear cut show that doesn’t seem to be trying to tell a story. The Beatles ballad is gold and ripe for Crown musicality. Blow it up Start again is going to be one of the best musical movements of the season. The Bruckner at the beginning is heaven. Overall, I think it would be a bit ridiculous to say this design doesn’t have the makings of a possible championship.

  5. I think it's awesome to have him as part of the Bloo team. He's learning there's much more to a first-class drum corps than great performers, designers and instructors. He's getting a GREAT education that you just don't get as a music major in college. Plus he may become the most well known intern in DCI...at least here on DCP :-) And maybe some extra cookies from Terri at Mason! Keep up the great work Landry.

  6. So I watched the clip a couple of times prior to its removal and had the following observations: 1. Brass - I believe the horn-line is in good shape and playing a very difficult book. I would rate what I heard as good for June 17th. Prospectively, I look forward to the cleaning that the Harloff's will do which should straighten out any rough areas. Overall I think this group is solid and will land in the top 3. 2. Percussion - The battery is killer and by far the best line Crown has fielded in recent years. Obviously its early and I have no clue how they will score, but I could easily see them top 3 come finals. They are very impressive and honestly killing it as of June 17th. Overall I think this group is solid and will land in the top 3. 3. Guard - This group wins the most improved award of the corps (year over year), as they have a lot of demand and are executing their book pretty good. It really felt like the quality guard Crown is use too is back, of which will have a significant impact on overall scoring for the corps as the season progresses. I did see several rifle drops / dirt in general, but all I can say is job well done. They brought a lot of energy to the show. Overall I think this group is solid and will land in the top 3. 4. Overall - I think this is one of the stronger pre-season shows that Crown has produced since 2013. I look forward to the ending being added and all of the other layers/changes that will be added as the season continues. I also thought the visual package (drill and body) was pretty well done, as Jeff Sacktig is doing an excellent job for Crown. To me, Crown's drill/visual is on the rise. Overall I believe this show will be top 3 and I am with the other person who stated I could use another 12 minutes of that closer as that was fun/exciting. I wish them the best of luck this season and on Thursday.

  8. I wouldn't worry about predictions coming back to haunt you or anyone. This is all in good fun. My day to day views on the shows, entertainment, and placements ultimately changes with each day of the season once it starts. From that point on I hardly ever look back at my predictions.

  9. Actually, Mr. Dixon has been quite reasonable lately. Mr. Stained, on the other hand....

  10. we are only allowed to discuss seasons 2012 to now (per the rule that anything positive regarding the Cadets must be left off DCP) plus corps that don't win too often (so no BD) plus you can't talk about corps which haven't been in finals most years attaining finals (crazy talk) or corps "buying a championship" (sorry, no Boston allowed) - and while we are at it - let's ban conversation about any corps with Blue in their name (too common and easily confused during conversation) or any corps that doesn't wear hats so - there ya go - you are allowed to talk about Crown, Cavaliers (this year, not last year) and I think that's it.

  11. I also like how Boston is weaving the Amazing Grace quote within the film soundtrack music from Cast Away by Alan Sylvestri.

  13. I told myself that I’d go into this season without having viewed or listened to shows before seeing them live. So yeah, that didn’t happen. Just listened to the concert in the park recording and all I can say is UNHhhh...

  14. My like-cycle for Crown shows never starts off that great in June, but they almost always bring me around in the end. I think this is much better start for them than last season and yeah... the percussion hype seems to be legit. I don't think it gets them a Sanford, but honestly, I found myself watching and listening to them more than the brass or guard (and they are both doing some work). That's never been the case with Crown. Ballad seems out of place to me, but I'm sure that will get massaged as the season progresses. I want about 12 more minutes of that closer. Way too short. Hope to get to see this one live. No false advertising in this show title.

  15. This off season has me really thirsty for drum corps... 3 days away! What are you most looking forward to? I am personally looking forward to seeing what Bloo comes out of the gate with - the music really has me intrigued...

  16. Weather in Erie for the next three days has highs at 72 and lows at 59 with only a chance of any rain after tonight's blow around by the big storm hitting the East. Nice practice weather for sure.

  21. Dear Cadets Community, We apologize for the interruption to our website. On Thursday evening, we were alerted to a malicious attempt to gain access to our web servers. The intent was to mine cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, which we do not accept. Our security protocols detected and stopped the malware and the website remained offline while it was carefully scanned to ensure no other malware was found. Our priority is the safety of your information and we are committed to its protection. We are happy to report there was no data breach during this incident. We appreciate your patience during this process. -YEA! Staff

  25. Having just voted, I am intrigued what motivates this timely Socio/Financial conversation. The all-mighty Mission Statement penned by every 501c3 is lofty and vague at best. As a fan I have always considered the remaining all male corps to have the deepest traditions and yes, Brotherhood that exemplifies their Mission Statement. The Mission Statement seems to be wielded as a weapon against this time honored tradition. If the organization is willing to reinvent themselves for a greater genetic pool I fear they can't see the forest for the trees. If we force inclusiveness and become " like everyone else" then we are all diminished.

  27. I like it! Of all the preview shows I've seen so far, it is my favorite. Get the whole beastly, menacing vibe. Looks great on the field for so early in the season. Yea Crown!

  30. I'm excited to see Music City's Family & Friends performance Saturday night before leaving on tour. I went to a rehearsal last week and the show is so entertaining and they are sounding like a mature world class corps.

  32. I wasn’t comparing anything about the talent level then to now. Of course, there’s no comparison. I was merely stating that corps made big leaps early on in DCI.

  33. Sick of waiting sounds right. I have favorites - SCV, Cavaliers, Scouts - but right now I’m excited to see what all the corps bring to the field. Four shows Saturday through Friday. Thank you Midwest.

  43. If you scroll back to some 2011 posts here, I think you'll find people saying, "DCI today is different than 2004; I think it takes a lot more to move up today." That said, both claims could be right! As I have previously shown, there has been a slow trend of the average placement change declining from year to year. But exceptions still happen. For instance, Troopers jumped five spots from 2012 to 2013, Academy jumped four spots from 2015 to 2016, and Boston jumped six spots from 2016 to 2017.

  44. While about 98 percent of the '77 corps had never marched drum corps - and most had never even seen a drum corps competition before joining the newly-formed Spirit, we had a very high return rate in '78. Jim Ott tried to tell us in the spring that we were really good and were in for an amazing season, but we didn't believe him. Until. The. Second. Show. I don't even remember our first show, but I vividly remember our second show in Cedarburg, Wisc., on the old high school football field that was in the middle of a racetrack. The bleachers had an overhang that captured all of the sound, and the crowd went nuts from the first big hit in the show. We began feeding off the crowd's reaction, which raised our energy level about tenfold, I would guess. That night, we beat the Blue Stars, who had finished in 7th the previous year, by 6 points. Yes, we were very shocked.

  45. Just watched their concert in the park. Holy COW!!!! May have to revise my predictions. This is a seriously amazing corps with a killer music book. If the visual is as good as the music I just heard then look out DCI!

  47. There is no doubt that entry into the top 3 is a major undertaking. I wonder if some of the naysayers were the same folks who proclaimed only one year ago that the new staff would never be able to work together and the best BAC could hope for might be 8th or 9th. One fellow even referred to the Building A Champion motto as wishful thinking. I wonder what they will say in two months. Or in 14 months. In any event, it is only a matter of time. The 2018 version of Boston is going to be a formidable powerhouse regardless. Eat'em Up!
