  3. ...that the Blue Stars' wood is catching fire. ...that The Academy has cancelled classes for the day. ...that Spirit is going door-to-door, knocking on each door to see if someone can let them in from the heat. ...that the Madison Scouts' hearts are melting. ...that the Troopers are now taking a new road north. ...that Music City is installing air conditioning in its train.

  4. I fainted, vomited, blacked out, froze in shock, had heart palpitations, and started hyperventilating A perfectly natural reaction on my part!

  5. I still think they could play up the characters more. Get a 10 year old to ride tricycle for finals weekend. Have someone axe through the door at the end, A creepy person in a tux, A creepy bear costume, etc. Edit to add. They need a guy at a desk with a typewriter and some prerecorded sounds of typing at the start! OMG that'd be awesome.

  9. Kind of ironic that the "DCI North Texas Presented by Stanbury Uniforms" show will have no uniforms.

  10. I wish this show was the one that was being livestreamed today. Far more interesting lineup than Belton.

  11. No matter how many times I hear it, I still think Danse Macabre works so well on the field

  17. Kudos to DCI for being right on top of the dangerous weather conditions and doing the right thing for the marching members. We often blast DCI when they screw up. For their decision making regarding the corps safety, credit where credit is due.

  18. from Seattle Washington! the Seattle. cascades. He got excited about where they are from then went flat for who they are. But did a bit more with the announcement after the salute. Someone must be reading this thread and saying, "dude, you gotta liven up."

  22. Cadets will be live streaming their guard warm up tonight - 9:50 eastern time, 8:50 local This unit was left without their caption head (as most of you were aware) right before the final guard tryout and spring training They've been rapidly improving the past couple weeks and we'll see a very nice Cadets guard by Indy - their hard work is certainly starting to pay off. They've been rotating in some very strong techs to help support their talented members. A great story this season IMO. Sam Watson stepped up as Caption Head - very solid guy.

  24. I’m sorry my man, but I’m not sure you’re looking at the whole picture. The shows are far and away more difficult in terms of body movement than they were in the thick uniforms. The thick uniforms trapped more heat, sure, but I would argue that the visual responsibilities take more out of the members and they heat up every bit as much.

  25. We went to the souvenir stand in St. Louis and made a donation to the corps. We were both very moved by their spirit and perseverance. They are truly great Cadets.

  42. They seemed to be doing good. Lots of water breaks. My daughter sat in the car with me to eat dinner ... with the air blasting on her the whole time. Tomorrow they have an indoor facility so it should be better.

  43. BK was going to add a bunch of water features and fans to keep them cool on the field, but it turned out to be a pyramid scheme.

  44. I would advise you go if you're ok with the heat In my experience these corps give the very best and relaxed hyped runs in these situations, be it rain or heat or delays drum corps mm always rise to the occasion one of my greatest memories ever was 90 cadets at the old meadowlands stadium doing a run on a rain soaked field for the remaining fans. It was amazing. Same with Madison in the rain in 93. These kids will rock it.

  47. The Cavaliers do discriminate on gender. Most drumcorps discriminate on gender. In the guard, specifically, there is often a rough quota of male/female slots that may be determined by the necessary roles needed to convey a design theme. All theatrical and screen plays discriminate on gender. But with all due respect to identity politics... not all discrimination is immoral and certainly not illegal. The very prerequisite that the Cavaliers are a male organization means that no female could apply to be discriminated against. That distinction being made known by this private organization is no different than a casting call that defines a need for particular gender. They can't be sued for this. It's fine to hate this truth... But I'm not sure that hating this is much different than hating broccoli. One last point on the broader topic. The Cavaliers do not specifically prevent women from winning, even when they win, any more that a coed corps prevents particular women from winning in a 2nd place organization. The very entry into a competition that is coed, for a spot or for a title, means that either a man or a woman will achieve over the other based on merit. When the Cavaliers win... It is their design and merit that enable the win, not their gender. And we are now way off topic for this thread.

  48. At this point and it is a waste of time energy and money. The corps has changed with the blades of glory costumes, with uninteresting onr non excitement type of shows. All of this to conform to wgi. By conforming and being a me too, all in the name of following the crowd to make the finals show. Evidently that is not working, so why not just go back to the Superman suit with the balls in your face Type of show Madison is known for. What is the worst that could happen? Not make finals, oh yeah it seems to happen a lot as we play follow the leader with no heart or soul. The brand that Madison is and has been. The Madison Scouts were what drum and bugle corps embodied! The type of show Madison is known for. The brand that Madison is and has been. The Madison Scouts were The face of drum corps , what pure unadulterated passion and excitement we’re all about. I do not think that the Madison Scouts running around without the Aussies So the crowd can see your cute little expressions , running around in the pink and red costumes. I want to see the Madison Scouts marching onto that field blowing that stands down with a scowl on their face saying hair I am, this is bad azz! Why not be the leader and bring drum Corps back to what it was meant to be. And by that, I mean entertaining.

  49. There are a few others too. You mentioned some. The Boston Crusaders are another. In the mid 60's, they were a National Top 3 Drum & Bugle Corps. 'Founding, Charter Member Corps of DCI in '72. But fell upon some very challenging times in the late 70's/ early 80's period.. about as challenging as it gets to keep going. 'Finished out of the TOP 30 a few years. ' competed with just 19 brass one season in that time frame. 80's went bankrupt. Judge took their name away..' had to call themselves " The Boston Drum & Bugle Corps ".. before getting their Financials and debt in order sufficient enough to go back to that Court a year or 2 later and get the judge to give them their name back... " Boston Crusaders ". From there it was a long uphill climb back. They rebounded slowly, but surely, ..to eventually qualify for DCI Finals Status in '99.
