  4. It wasn’t the marching members’ fault. I’m glad DCI didn’t punish the kids on the field.

  6. I apologize, I was a bit busy! I just saw scores and regardless of placement... Cavies made me extremely proud!

  7. To give the FLO people a little credit (just a little): The guy knew he was stepping on a hornets nest and stopped digging that hole any further. The woman called him out on it and didn’t just sit there and smile it off.

  8. Personally I loved last year's show. Certainly were not afraid to do something unique and different. "NO one To kNOW one" especially was an amazing number.

  9. No one balances a brass line like Matt Harloff. Edit: I'll say that so much of the key is having the trumpets, particularly the leads, play a dynamic level lower than everyone else. And having an arranger that writes to compliment that and not have 2/3 of the line playing above the staff for the whole show. Gives you a much more middle voice focused and smoother sound. Doesn't hurt to have some tubas that can pump some sound.

  10. Welp, I feel really really dumb now. I've spent the better part of the season trying to figure out what the oo/o/ooo meant on the field. I looked up the Morse code for it and everything. It just now dawned on me.

  12. The members must be really proud tonight with the large jump in score and the reaction from the audience. This show is a testament to what can be accomplished in times of adversity. This would make a great book or movie! The character of the members must be out of this world!

  20. Update: after assessing the damage, looks as if the tent took some damage but is being repaired. There is some water damage (imagine that) as well, but overall it's not as bad as first feared. They're apparently back up and running. Good news!

  21. I’m ensconced in my hotel after a full night of great drum corps. Top to bottom, there’s something to appreciate in every corps’ show. What a year There was a discussion recently about non-responsive crowds. That’s not the case where I sat in Section Q. People applauded for every corps. The only negative I saw was how the occupants of some seats in my row only showed up for their corps and left after that corps finished. I think I will enjoy semis the most this year. There are some really good corps that won't be in finals and deserve to be seen and heard. Last, I’ll say, “Cavies or Boston? Do we really have to choose? They are both very entertaining.”

  26. Boston's show has all the elements and performance levels of an incredible program, but I'm just not that into it. It's like when you tell someone you don't want to date anymore... It's not you... It's me.

  27. Wow yesterday's rain still hasn't drained completely off the field...

  28. There's something special about watching the Cadets end their show with the Z-Pull in Allentown, I wish I could have been there in person! After everything that has happened this year, it's such a great way to connect with the best of their history and move past the worst.

  29. A really cool analysis of the drill design of SCV 2018 that I thought was worth sharing here. Think he’s right on the mark.

  31. I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but I love how the contra solo about a minute in is written in the drill so that the soloists nearly makes to be with the contra group, but then breaks off on his own for the solo; great way of symbolizing the idea of fraction among a group in the drill.

  33. Cadets, I was planning to stand up for you every night in Indy in support of you being on the field in 2018. Now I'll be standing for that reason and BECAUSE YOU ARE SO DAMMMM GOOD!!!! I cannot wait to experience it live again. WOW

  34. The show is just so gorgeous as it ends, it pulls you out of the seat. Playing to the home crowd pulled all the feels out.

  39. Yes, we all know about the rain, about the exhibition, about the called show well before it was announced (5 corps didn't even arrive at stadium yet when was decision was made.) But in generations to come, back in DBQ this is the version that will be retold to grandchildren and great grandchildren. So a shout out to the Red Team and why every run, every practice, every rep has to be a journey to excellence and effort. Congratulations Colts.
