  1. Listen to what Dr. Vic has to say and MSJ will be OK, He possesses over 50 years of D&BC wisdom and is capable of making the right call. Good luck in 2013
  2. Empire is not folding, they are evolving. The Edge is just a small part of the plan for the future. Stay tuned.
  3. At a time when every dollar is hard to come by, The White Sabers still care enough and make the effort to help some dedicated members with their school expenses. Kudos to a real class organization, best of luck in the future.
  4. Our loss is DCA's gain...Congratulations Allen, I know you will do a great job as always.
  5. The most entertaining night I have had in many years. It was a shock seeing Bonny with the Kilts, she knocked her solo out of the park just like 35 years ago. All the mini corps brought their A game. I thought Ghost Riders were superb but Star was on another planet. "The Edge of Empire" brought a Blast style performance to the mini corps stage that just blew everyone away, Amazing with only 4 days of preparation. This is one DVD I will be buying
  6. This event is all about honoring all the people who have served in the armed forces, especially the few remaining WWII vets who will be honored guest. What better venue to have this event than the Alumni Spectacular where most of the participants and audience appreciate a good salute to America, Freedom and the people who have served their country to protect our way of life. I am sure this display of patriotism will be a part of the Alumni Spectacular for many years to come. Thank you Tommy Allen, DCA and others who are hard at work to make this event a huge success.
  7. I hope everyone in the Rochester area will come out tonight for a wonderful night of entertainment and for a most worthy cause. See you all there
  8. RIP old friend, I'll miss getting crushed by your hugs
  9. I am shocked. Gerry was one of those guys you could count on to always be there with a smile and a kind word. I will miss him. RIP old friend
  10. Dave Landers baritone solo at I&E. Ghostriders amazing performance in mini corps. OZ
  11. Congratulations to Donny Allen and every member of the Ghost Riders. Your performance was nothing short of spectacular. You made this old alumni proud. I will be wearing my Ghost Rider 2000 T shirt the rest of the weekend. Kudos to the judges for making the correct call IMHO. BTW, Star was amazing, congrats on your 5-peat.
  12. I saw Renegades final run last night. I was very impressed, much better than I expected. I love their book which includes my all time favorite piece of music...Jupiter. There is even a hint of The Jetsons Theme. I am sure the DCA audience is going to love their performance.
  13. Crusaders had a history of the lights going out while they were performing. It happened twice in 62, one was in Hornell I believe. It was sort of a joke with us in the Grey Knights, the line was...how much did Vince pay the electrician to pull the switch?
  14. I would't miss finals for the world.
  15. Come on folks, It's 3 blocks from the Kodak parking lot to the stadium, and if you have a disability where you can't walk 3 blocks, I am sure you have a handicap sticker which will get you into a lot at the stadium. as far as paying to park, the Kodak lot is free on Sunday morning during the Alumni show. I don't think it makes sense to have a shuttle bus for a quarter mile distance.
  16. Your rehearsal site and the hotel are both excellent and less than 2 miles apart, just come out of the hotel on the E. Henrietta Rd. side and go south aprox 1.5 miles, turn right onto Calkins Rd. and the park is about a quarter mile down on the left. BTW, the question was where the corps were practicing in Scranton this weekend. Empire will be at the soccer field across the street from the stadium.
  17. Some of the stuff I saw this year in DCI really disturbs me. Teal Sound with 2 guitars in the pit. Bluecoats with a great baritone solo that is drown out by some sort of electronic gibberish. Electronic noises like laughter in Cavies show and all those crazy contortions by the performers. Electronic keyboards in most if not all pits. Corps with 20 contr...err tubas that still need electronic bass to pump up the volume. To an old traditionalist, this is pure blasphemy. I was willing to accept Bb, but this is not drum corps. I think these things totally detract from their performances. All that being said, I enjoyed many DCI performances this year but Drum & Bugle Corps?... NOT
  18. Since the first time competing against them in 1963 with St. Joe's of Batavia, I was never a big fan of the Crusaders but they sure sold me this year. What a corps, what a show concept. I was entertained from beginning to end. The little taste of Conquest was the icing on the cake. Thanks so much for giving a traditional drum corps fan something to cheer about.
  19. If it's drum corps, it's all good.
  20. Big show for such a small town. All the corps were on their "A" game. Corp Vets were Smokin' But I didn't understand the two drummers coming from both sides of the field and jumping in... half way through the show. Were they late? Hurcs were loud and the guard was big and right on. Empire was unreal. They really know how to entertain. Jersey Surf was a great addition to an already super show. A wonderful evening of total entertainment. I don't mean to slight the other corps but this is not meant to be a review, just a few comments. Thanks to whatever group that ran the show, well done and the food was very reasonable.
  21. I'm so sorry to here this. I marched with Ken in the 1962 Grey Knights. He was a role model for this 16 year old youngster. I saw him a few times in later years and he never seemed to age Grey Knights Alumni have lost a great leader.
  22. Louie was one hell of a guy and a great solo soprano. I marched with him in the 1962 Grey Knights. Grey Knight Alumni numbers are getting thin. RIP Louie
  23. That's Robert Duffy. Before he became Mayor of Rochester, he was the Chief of Police. I am very proud of Rochester's finest. When you mention drum corps to anyone from Rochester, they most likely have been in corps or know of someone who has. When I grew up in the 60's, we had a corps on every street corner. Most of the first 20 or so DCA Championships were held down the street from me at Aquinas Stadium. My point is, Rochester has alway been very receptive of our activity and has been the greatest supporters and fans. I want to ad my thanks to Allen Buell and his committee. Allen makes the job look easy, but few people know what's involved. This should be a full time job but he not only works tirelessly all year on the Championships, he also works hard to keep the Statesmen on the field, and he even finds time to work a full time job at the George Eastman House. I wish I could clone him. I look forward to another great DCA Championships in September. Be sure to show your appreciation to the police officers you come in contact with. Let them know what a fine job they do.
