  1. JJ!! What's up bro? Yeah I live in Nashville... I'm a recording Engineer with a pretty sweet gig recording the Nashville Symphony. I have been in sessions all weekend. I also got married .. i really like it here... don't think I'll be moving back, but hopefully next summer i can talk the wifey into letting me march Music City Legend. I aged out SDub in 2005 and I miss it.
  2. From and Old Heat Wave Alum, now living in Tennessee.... Good Luck Sun Devils.... and btw that is a pretty sweet name ya got there.
  3. oops i should learn to read before i post....
  4. 2004 Southwind and troopers were lined up next to each other getting ready to on for retreat at San Antonio. we are lined up through the bowels of the alamo dome.... we are at parade rest. a top 6 STAFF came through and wanted to cut through our lines. when we silently didn't let them and when we didn't they started #####ing.... in my head though i thought to myself it doesn't matter if we (southwind) lets them through.... because there is no way in HECK the troopers were gonna let that happen. But to answer the question.... ranks are sacred to every member of southwind...... dems fighting actions.
  5. there are some early season vids of it on youtube i think...
  6. Thanks man, that show was a blast to march. That was a special year with a special corps.
  7. Any news on when S-Dub will be announcing their show? as an alumni I'm curious...
  8. As a Classical Recording Engineer... I have 1 bit of advice..... DON'T DO ANYTHING.... the guys that work on the CD's are very knowledgeable with several Grammy's amongst them.... Mastering is a very painstaking process that even most engineers aren't very good at.... don't go and squash the hell out of the recordings with a cheesy sounding compressor you find for free online... they are suppose to have dynamics... this isn't a pop album. trust me they have optimized these recordings to play as loud as possible without crapping out your system... if you want it louder.... turn it up, but please don't go messing with the original..... pleeeeeeeeeeease. as a little background... I work with the guys from Soundmirror who have worked on the DCA recordings lately and also assist Larry Rock (they are friends) with the DCI recordings.... they are very knowledgeable and know what they are doing. There normal gig is recording all of the Boston Symphony Concerts in Symphony Hall, Boston.
  9. I was under the impression that this is the year for brand new S-Dub unis....
  10. ... Philip Glass Ensemble.... saw them last night..... FREAKING SWEET!
  11. The Old Southwind of Montgomery, AL and the New Southwind from Lexington, KY are one in the same. At the end of 1997 Dave Bryan (the father of SW) had saved quite a bit of money for the corps and realized he couldn't do what southwind really needed as Director. He turned over operation and all properties to his friend Scott Stewart and the Madison Drum and Bugle Corps Association, which ran S-Dub beginning in the 1999 Season... (Southwind took of 1998 for the move and to build ties in the Lexington Area) and the rest is History.
  12. whoa whoa whoa..... This is where I the recording engineer step in..... A)Digital didn't really start sounding good til recently... for proof see 80's pop music (if it sounded good in the 80's it was ANALOG) B)The best analog gear of the era would have sounded a million times better then what they must have used... for proof listen to Steely Dan, EWF, all the great bands from the 70's.... Some still prefer analog... my mentor is one. So in summary.... Analog can sound Better then Digital.... the true culprit is the shoddy recording tactics used on DCI recordings of the era... Also at the Nashville Symphony I work with two guys who are engineers for the Boston Symphony... they are actually friends with Larry Rock, and the help with the DCI recording (started doing it in 1999) and do the DCA recordings themselves.... So I KNOW the technology they use now and its good stuff. Carry on.
  13. Southwind.... one of the most consistant fan favorites over the past few years.... New Drum Staff, New Guard Staff..... good things will come!
