Hopefully they don’t change too much! My favorite BD show in over 10 years.
I gotta say, it's the only one since 2007 I've ever found myself humming the week after championships.

They’re 9 months away from announcing their show and yet I still am in awe of Jay Bocook’s 2024 arrangements somehow 😁

Does BAC have a Conquest hit this year?
A few hours late but yes, at the end of the second piece the pit plays the conquest hits while the trumpets simultaneously play the bugle calls. Very tastefully done.

Got inside the stadium this year with plenty to spare. Amazing things can happen when people don’t all decide to line up for no reason for an hour 🙃

It's not the percussion feature. It's from the end of the opener to the start of On The Waterfront. The percussion feature, the drunken song, everything in that section. For me, nothing compelling happens for 1/3 of the show. But the other 2/3's of the show are fantastic enough to make it one of my favorites of the season.
Some of you one day when the tonguing is done have never taken your leave and gone, and it shows

That was the best this Cavaliers show has been all season. Full standing O in my section once they hit that company front.

Overheard: “No voiceover in Spirit’s show tonight that they’re back on the field? How were we supposed to understand that they’re back on the field?”
-
Spirit’s unamped pit sounded fantastic. 😎

Do you have anything else to say in rebuttal other than sarcastic one liners?
Sure, amplification balance has never been reflected on the sheets.

If it was as unbalanced as you say, don’t you think that this would be the first thing the judges mention during critique after each competition?
Oh my sweet summer child.

Phantom seems AMPLIFIED. In Atlanta it was overbearing.
Loudest synth bass by a mile. It’s weird, they didn’t have this problem at all last year. 🫤

Madison left me scratching my head. There’s just no there there. Exciting final minute though from the company front on.
-
Man I completely underestimated Academy. They need to build on whatever I’m hearing because that is a solid sound. Not sure I understand the show though.

One of my favorite Madison tunes is Encore, Boerma's closer from 1993. Absolutely love it. Edit: I'd further say that 93 Madison is a perfectly constructed early 90s drum corps show.
Extremely underrated.

That has to be the best performance in their history…right?

Miss this sound. At least the Gen Zers got to hear something completely different tonight.

I would think (hope?) the brass judges would score a brass ensemble that relies on ensemble amplification (or select players) a lower achievement score.
That is not what happens.

It's kind of a central moment in the source material though, IMO. This is an obvious exaggeration, but would you arrange Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and take out all references to Ode to Joy? Maybe. But no one would fault you for leaving it in.
The piano is kind of a central moment in Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, but J.D. Shaw chose to arrange it for a drum corps. 🙃

Arrangers cut things from the source material all the time.

I really don't understand Somewhere as the ballad choice here. Could have gone with anything else really.
