  1. what was the surprise? Carmen came out dressed as a Catholic school girl.
  2. Boston was sloppy in areas the past two nights. TQ and overall performances weren't as good as CC and SCV. This is the second year in a row they've dropped finals week.
  3. SCV really stepped it up tonight. Great energy was projected. I sat in the 5th row on the left 40 yard line and you could sense the confidence, feel the energy, and see the kids' intensity exuding throughout their show--they were out to overtake those corps within reach. And they did! They never quit, stayed within themselves and let their performances do the talking. You just knew after Friday's results that Boston was ripe for the taking (and I'm a BAC alum.) The crowd was pulling for SCV and they got their largest applause of the weekend tonight--our recognition of their hard work and exemplary effort. The mallet exercises prior to their performance were relatively simple, but very nice to listen to. Vic Firth was sitting right in front of the pit taking it in. The organization, its fans, and alums should be proud of tonight's achievement and use it as a motivator for next year. Tim
  4. Cascades narration was fitting and appropriate. All others were unnecessary. Unfortunately, it's a big part of the Blue Devils's show. I'm appalled that Cadets deem it necessary to include vocal drum rapping. Just give us a good "anything you can do, I can do better" feature like Cadets did in 2000. Tim
  5. I agree with the original post. Not much projection came across, corps felt distant, not many WOW moments. Just a lot of clean, excellent performances that didn't pull you to the edge of the seat. This was not smash-mouth drum corps tonight. I fear what tomorrow night's gonna be like when my seats are in the 300s section. I'll also be interested to see and hear if the stadium layout has something to do with the shows coming across. My finals seats are on the fifty, row six. I've watched Blue Devils practice this week. They've given spirited run-throughs that had me enjoying their show. Upon seeing it tonight I was disappointed at how poorly it came across, yet BD was performing their brains out--they really were pumping the show out the best they could. No wonder fans are disappointed with their program this year. Furthermore, all narration (except Cascades) didn't project and was a hindrance to the shows--even The Cadets. I'm starting to think narration needs to go away. It is a nice attempt, but it gets in the way and doesn't effectively project. Tim
  6. Blue Devils: Mansfield HS 20 mins from Gillette Cadets: Dartmouth HS 75 mins from Gillette EC Jazz: Bishop Feehan HS in Attleboro 20 mins from Gillette Crown: Mashpee HS, Cape Cod 60 mins from Gillette Bluecoats: North Attleboro HS, 15 mins from Gillette BAC: somewhere in Lexington Spirit: Norton HS 25 mins from Gillette Cavies: Case HS, Swansea, 30 minutes from Gillette Madison: Austin Prep, Danvers (I think) 60 mins from Gillette Phantom: Manchester, NH--but closed to the public A nice small circular practice tour would be Blue Devils, Spirit, Cavies, Bluecoats. They're all within 30 mins of each other, just south of Gillette and easy to get to off the highway. Hope this helps. Tim
  7. What am I gonna do? I'll tell ya. I live twenty minutes from Gillette and the Blue Devils are stayin' a half mile down the street from me. I'll be at the school morning, noon, and night watching them practice. My son is really looking forward to seeing them and I'm telling my neighbors to get to the school during the week. Have tix for all three nights with my brothers sitting at different levels and am looking forward to seeing and cheering for ALL the corps. Saw a show in early July so I'm interested in seeing the improvements in those corps, plus I'm interested in seeing every Div. I corps because the division is so competitive this year and I think they all should have our support with our attendance. Isn't this the greatest youth activity in the world? Judging by these forums, it sounds like it's the most competitive year ever--so many corps jockeying for position. Now please excuse me while I get my beauty rest so I can welcome BD when they pull in at 4:00 a.m. Tim
  8. Boston in danger of fadin'. Have they peaked two weeks before finals, just like last year? Gonna get dicey between BK, SCV, Glass, and BAC. Crown will not move up nor down. C'mon Bluecoats, catch dem Devils.
  9. Along with Kfanti, I too say: Spartacus! and.... ...anything by Puccini ...and Mahler ...last two mvts. of Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique
  10. Magic appears to be on the move, picking up a little mo. Might make 14-18 race more interesting.
  11. "I know what the boxes are for, sheesh." I wish DCI would post a set of blank scoresheets. I'd love to see the sheets. They would help me understand the scoring system, my understanding of the contest placements, and my own evaluation of a corps performance a whole lot more. I do know that there's a judging guide somewhere on their site but I want to see what these criteria boxes contain. It would also help us long-time fans clue activity newbies into how the corps are judged and placements determined. Any leads? Tim
  12. Why do we need scores to be down to the hundredths of a point? Oh, that's right, we can't have a tie in DCI. Come finals night how will the activity feel if a corps wins by .005 or .01? Perhaps it came down to the math tonight, but how and where can anyone explain the Cavies were 75 hundredths of a point (!) better than Cadets? If two corps are fit to be tied, then so be it already! Or do I need some edu-ma-catin'? Tim
  13. Folks are gonna be traveling far and wide if they want to see a corps practice. Phantom is 90 minutes away from Gillette. Madison is at least an hour away. Housing winners, in terms of distance close to Gillette are Blue Devils, Cavies, East Coast Jazz, Blue Coats, and Spirit from JSU (they are staying at Norton High School--easy to get to, less than 30 mins to Gillette.) Lucky me, the above mentioned are within 30 mins of my house with the Blue Devils staying a half mile down the street from me.
