  1. Mike, John, I'm sick of all the mis-information. We all know we are going with 96 brass. geez r
  2. Yo, I thought John, Kirk and I were good to go, then we got an email that said they were moving another direction. That's all I know. No more, no less. All good (except I LOVED writing for them!). Teal is gonna be KEWEL this year. And Fusion chose killer stuff as well. r - edit - I do know that Ho created his own group - Gequo (Sp?) but it is more of a professional/Blast type group of about 20 players. They don't compete, at least to my knowledge.
  3. Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps is currently looking for individuals to augment our brass staff for the remainder of the winter and summer tour. If you are about teaching, learning, and building an organization for the long run, please consider Teal sound in your plans. We seek experienced corps people, especially those with music education degrees to contact us in the form of a cover letter, resume' and your availability through email. Please send your replies to this post to ucfrellis@mac.com
  4. C-Bowl renovation is stage 3 of downtown venues project. Stage 1 is the new arena, stage 2 is arts center (they will be constructed more or less at the same time). There is still much discussion about what gets done and how much they will spend. C-Bowl will be unusable for approx one calendar year which would affect the DCI show for a season (depending on when they begin the renovation). I have "heard" that they will do all they can to protect the football games they have there (makes sense) which would mean they begin in late december, early january and bust butt through the winter/spring/summer in the hopes of completing it in time for the "Classic" and the bowl games. Hopefully no bad weather. UCF has actually been in the conversation to host some of these if the construction becomes backed up. But it all has to do with my previous posts. It is going to be an amazing place once all three are completed but that is not until 2011 - here are some links http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/...0,4863671.story http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/...78.storygallery btw - UCF is building our own arts center beginning this fall - it is gonna be great. Check out the Marching Knights practice field in phase 3 - a grass field on top of a parking garage! - I've got money it never happens! http://www.fp.ucf.edu/images/ProjectPhotos...rds%2011x17.pdf ok, back to the open class board - c ya r
  5. Again - another ridiculous and biased comment. We will sell out the front side, provide corps fans with an amazing venue with hotels and restaurants all close by, with a solid rain plan etc. Here's another thought. What if we could build a florida tour? Jax, Orlando (UCF), Tampa, Sarasota, then back to orlando for a regional at the C-bowl. Give us a little time - it could be incredible. What if we built it like they do in Cali where all the corps could stay at the same place for a week and then do run-outs for the shows? That would be amazing for the Corps, and even better for Florida drumcorps fans. Think of the clinics, the exposure, the performance opportunities (theme parks). UCF is going to do our best to partner with DCI and make all of this a reality. But we are just in the brain bending stages. You have to admit - it could be awesome. r
  6. With all due respect - you don't know what you're talking about. Brighthouse Stadium is totally safe, plenty of concessions, plenty of parking, plenty of hotels within a mile of campus (about 10), easy access to main roads (Greenway and I-4). We are only 15 minutes from downtown btw. Sightlines and sound is great, if not one of the best I have ever experienced - and that's during a football game. I can't even imagine it with a crowd of people there to watch and enjoy DCI - awesome. The comment about no room for the corps is also ridiculous. Have you even been out here? Citrus Bowl is a GREAT stadium for drumcorps (one of my all-time favorites), it's just old and that bothers some people. The area is the area. UCF will be a fantastic place when/if we can get it done. It really is all about housing at this point. I want to host all the corps on campus (plenty of fields), so we are waiting for the renovations on the old arena to be finished before we begin having meetings. We aren't going to rush it - it is too important to me to do that. r
  7. "not want" is probably not the correct wording. UCF has a great relationship with the surrounding community and the University is being very methodical in how events are added and making sure that we maintain that relationship. Sue K. is a great friend (we were both associated with Suncoast and also worked together at Busch Gardens in the late 80's) and made the trip down, looked at the place and was blown away. It could be an absolutely amazing venue for a show, from both the corps, and even more the fans perspective. So - for the record - we would LOVE, not like, LOVE to partner with DCI and have the show out at UCF. We will be in it for the long haul, and want to make sure that we don't rush anything as we are all still getting used to the impact a stadium has on the community. The housing issues still exist in florida, and, to be honest, that is my major concern as we move forward. I'm sure you all appreciate the amount of discussion that needs to take place before you bring 700 or 800 performers into a city on a tour stop. When we get the show - we want every single corps to make it THE stop on tour. That may take a little more time in building relationships, but it will be worth it in the end. It doesn't happen overnight, or in a single season (something we are also committed to with Teal) - it takes time, local support, administrative support, and Athletics support. Dan and Sue are always great, they know our situation, and are totally supportive. Best to all this winter, come by and say hi this summer to Teal! r
  8. Thanks! Good team out there too! Now get your kid to my band camp! :P r
  9. Way to go everyone - I can finally sleep. I would give anything to hear the final run-through - ugh! Come home safe everybody! r
  10. I think we are actually a year away - but Randy has the final answer. He laid out a pretty good 3 yr plan and we met or exceeded most of our goals - just one left.... Everyone home safe and sound. Great season all! Can't wait to get started on next year. r
