The "Music Corps Should Do" thread
ExPitster replied to Lance's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I just got turned on to this album recently. Not sure how adaptable any of this is to the field, but wow...the propulsive intensity and unexpected harmonic twists have kept this on constant replay. The whole album is full of bangers. -
Shows you regret NOT seeing "Live"?
ExPitster replied to frank4now's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Interesting topic here, appreciate the OP bringing this up. I was at finals every year from 1986-2000, so those years are all covered. First year watching corps was 1984 and was fortunate to see both SCV and Garfield late in the season. Now I have to settle for NightBeat and every once in awhile Allentown, but there are some years that I've missed out completely. Thinking about individual shows, here's a top 5 for missing out: 2016 Bluecoats 1983 Garfield Cadets 2017 Bluecoats 2008 Phantom Regiment 2014 Blue Devils -
Many thanks for this list. There is also the choral piece "Ring Out, Wild Bells" used as the closer for the Cavaliers 1993 show.

Blu-ray/DVD production for 2023?
ExPitster replied to Maddogicatron's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Interestingly, the announcer Sat. night at Allentown made a point to promote DCI Blu-Ray/DVD purchases during the show. Guess that script needs to be revised... -
I was in Allentown both nights and this show is truly the roller coaster ride of the year! I'm curious to know what percentage of the show does a rifle or some other implement NOT go airborne All of the top 4 are special in their own right but this is the one show I'd most want to see again. Wishing these folks the best for a special week in Indy š

Just got back from the stadium. Big props to @Jeff Ream or whomever that we never even sniffed rain the whole night. I didn't stick around for scores, but seeing them now they seem mostly to line up with my impressions (seated about 20 rows back right on the 50). Devils' show leaves my jaw on the concrete (my favorite from them since 2006) but they do not have it locked up just yet. And while I have been somewhat ambivalent about my alma mater 'Coats this go-round, they are tightening up appreciably and the moment-to-moment flow and progression of the story finally makes sense from beginning to end. I guess the GE judges might be starting to agree. Show of the night, however, is the TROOPERS...it is a kick to see those folks performing like such bad-A****!! I could see them as another potential top 6 climber in the future if they can get a better handle on certain aspects of their design. Lots of fun stuff going on in all groups...a few disappointments of course but not going to dwell on those. Considering all the travails in the drum corps universe in recent years, I'm quite thrilled with the offerings this summer. I'm too tired to give a rundown on everyone at the moment, maybe after Saturday night...can't wait!

Marching Arts Roundtable interview with artistic director Gabe Escobedo and program coordinator Dave McGrath. I found this to be one of the more insightful episodes this summer, great to see these staffs sharing their experiences. Looking forward to catching PC tonight in Allentown. -
East Coast Showcase Quincy, MA July 2, 2023

I am so digging the straight up aggressiveness of Boston's show, just some crazy juicy material in all sections š -
I didn't know much about William Blake, but after studying his Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Blake) he seems to be quite the compelling artistic figure...plenty of aspects ripe for a modern drum corps presentation. And I am just thrilled they are playing "Finding and Believing" from Metheny...I wonder how much of that tune is on tap? The entire song could be a production in itself. Go BLOO!

What's your most Iconic "Company Front"?
ExPitster replied to PopcornEater1963's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Yeah, I was always so impressed it still looked perfect end-to-end from the side camera angle. But also glad I got to see it live at my first trip to finals that year. -

2023 Season Predictions
ExPitster replied to BlueStainGlass's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I surmise that the further the COVID years recede into the distance, the more groups seem to be finding their footing again with membership maturing and logistics solidifying. Very hopeful for a competitive and entertaining season and I'm thrilled to be making my first trip to Allentown since 2015. -
