  1. True but I didn't really pay much attention to the drumline back then.
  2. I don't know much about Colin, but I know that I loved a lot of the drum book at Cadets because it was so beefy. I am wondering how different it will sound with Colin writing the book, but I am sure it will be fine as well.
  3. I'm sure they'll be fine with Gino Cipriani. Glad to hear Thom Hannum is with Cadets. I was beginning to worry when Aungst was annouced as leaving. I feel a little better now.
  4. Thanks a lot to the OP for starting this thread. I was home on my fourth day of leave right across the Hudson from The City and had just celebrated my 1 year mark in the Navy. I was lying on the living room sofa sleeping when my grandmother came out of the room screaming about how there was a fire in the WTC. The thing that always saddens me about this anniversary is that my brother and I had planned to go to the WTC observation deck that morning. I woke up and looked outside of her balcony where she had a great view of the city. I thought I was having a nightmare. I was brought to tears immediately when I saw a speck in the sky flying closer and closer to the second tower and then a huge fireball. My heart dropped immediately after I realized this was a terrorist attack. My entire family knew that we were going to war. I was called back to my ship and we went underway at 1600. This is all I can write so far because I am getting choked up.
  5. This, except I think there will a battle between Cadets and Cavies up to finals night.
  6. Does anyone know of any hotels in that area that give military discounts?
  7. I'm brewing with excitement. OH, the POSSIBILITIES!!! Great move Cavies, great move.
  8. Clifton, NJ - 1996. Forgot who else was at the show but two corps I remember were Blue Devils and Cadets. I loved BD's show but Cadets had me sold on drum corps and I knew that's where I wanted to march.
  9. I would LOVE to see a battle for the top between Cadets and Crown. Crown's show was excellent this year and I have faith they can put out a show next year that will be just as competitive. Cadets will be out for blood next year and I'm sure they'll make up for this year by putting out an excellent product. One can only hope because like I implied earlier, BD, Cavies, and even Phantom won't go down without a fight.
  10. Well since he said no more narration and put Cadets in parenthesis, I looked at it as if he didn't want narration from ANY corps, so I WOULD say that.
  11. Agreed. That said corps will learn big from the mistakes of this past summer and come out of the gate looking for blood. Also, I'm sure BD, Cavies and Phantom will have something to say. But stranger things have happened.
  12. Yeah and they'll end up talked about negatively just like BD. Like he said, *20 years*
  13. You must have looked at the wrong picture because Cadets don't have guantlets anymore. They have gone back to the "traditional" uniform. Anyways, Cadets: No more narration. I love you guys no matter what, but I am tired of hearing people focus more negatively on the narration as opposed to how great you usually are. Everyone else: Nothing really as I'm really not bothered by anything. Just keep the great competitive shows coming.
  14. Y'all need to get together and get your stories straight! Apparently, at least one of you is seriously confused. Or, could it be, that Ms. Crown1 had legitimate concerns? +++ Since there seems to be such great confusion in the DCP community, allow me to tell you about Ms. Crown1, even though she and I have never met: 1. She is a deadly serious parent (that's a good thing) 2. She has morals and values 3. She's looking for a good experience for her child, and she's doing her research to see "what's out there" in the drum corps world, before she exposes her child to it. 4. She knew she would get hammered by the more immature posters on DCP, yet she choose to air her concerns anyway. That tells me she doesn't mind taking a risk, and that she's a communicator. Bravo, Ms. Crown1. You are not what's wrong with parents today. There may be some confusion here yes, but the thing is, most of the people who are speaking are probably speaking from what they have HEARD or are speaking from what happened in the corps THEY marched with. So you can't say people need to get their stories straight because they are not speaking for every drum corps. Sure, she has a right to be concerned, but not everything she's concerned about is happening in EVERY corps.
  15. I appreciate your expressing your concern, but honestly, this thread is rediculous. 1. When I marched Cadets, Crossmen and Surf, I ate much better there than on the off season because school and work took more of my time. 2. I finished the season physically stronger than I began and drum corps did not take any negative toll on my body (but of course, I am only speaking for myself). 3. You can go to the beach in the summer and see people wearing less clothing than what people in drum corps are wearing. 4. As for hooking up, we're human, and when you are around a certain group of people for that long, relationships are bound to happen. 5. People shower together in High school, the military, etc., etc. I am not sure if there were co-ed showers, but as for the showering outside, I don't remember ever seeing that happen when I marched. 6. Drum corps doesn't have to be strict 24/7. It's better to have antics on the bus than to have it during retreat. 7. I don't see the problem. 8. Of course I can see the concern there. Point is, people in drum corps are PEOPLE too. We are all going to do something that isn't always viewed as "family friendly" but that's life. If you want to let your child live a sheltered childhood, then you may have some problems on your hands when your child gets older.
  16. CADETS 2000 ...not to toot my own horn (no pun intended) of course, but that show was exciting to perform and more exciting to watch.
