  1. Ok. Do you feel that the situations are different then?
  2. Disclaimer: I didn't watch the feed from tonight's retreat. Now, in 2006, if I remember correctly, the crowd boo'd Carolina Crown's placement/score. Here, in 2010, we have the crowd booing the Blue Devils (or I guess, The Cavaliers) placement/score. Are these two events different, or are they equally "classless"? I ask because I don't remember people being up in arms about the 2006 situation, and also because, since I didn't see the live feed, I don't know if the booing began when Cavies were announced 2nd. Legit questions... just curious as to some people's thoughts...
  3. Could someone keep updating what's happening? I'm not able to catch the live feed. Thanks.
  4. There's a reason decades are called the twenties, thirties, ect. Number-wise, you need to think 0 to 9, not 1 to 10. (Oh, place value. ) The 00s of the 2000s starts with the year 2000 and runs through 2009. The 10s of the millennium would start with year 2010, the 20s would start with 2020, so on and so forth. (Like the 30s, the Blue Devils know that well. ) ....That's how I see it anyways... With that out of the way, I'll take Cavaliers. They pretty much owned 2000-2006 and slipped a bit in the last 3 years (when competition in the top 6 arguably become much stronger). Other people have pointed out average placement and the number of times in certain spots. The Blue Devils have made a strong case for a ten-year span, starting with 2007. So, let's see what happens between 2007 and 2016. Their consistency throughout their time in DCI has been ridiculous, and it's a true testament to their organization. They take a lot of heat for their continued success (I don't particularly care for their design either), but no one can argue their dominance and talent. (I feel like I used parentheses way to much in this post... like now )
  5. Ah, okay. I didn't mean to derail the lolcorps thread into an argument. (We should be lol-ing afterall.) Thanks for giving the background information though. I wasn't able to catch the game last night, unfortunately.
  6. I must be out of the loop with things... Why is she "important" (or better yet, why is that picture funny)?
  7. In the officer's report, he stated that Mr. Nelson was fondling himself in a public park. Mr. Nelson denies he did this. So, therefore, regardless if he actually did what he was accused of doing, he showed poor judgment by even going to a public park in the middle of the afternoon and soliciting the man (in this case, an undercover officer) in any way. He showed poor judgment by putting himself in a situation that could be misconstrued as illegal sexual activity. Again, use intelligence and common sense. Especially as an educator, you do not put yourself in a situation that can be deemed illegal or unethical. You have to be a step ahead of the game because simple accusations can ruin your career. Fortunately for Mr. Nelson, he can still find work (and can still theoretically teach). I'm sure he has learned that he must be more careful with what he does on his own time.
  8. The fact is he WAS in a public park (not might have been), which is public property... which makes the alleged act illegal. He showed extremely poor judgment on his part, regardless of whether he actually committed the act or not. As someone who is student teaching next semester and plans on teaching for a long time, I am constantly told by my professors and cooperating teachers that you must be smart in every decision you make. You don't give anyone a reason- administration, staff, students- to assume you are doing something illegal or unethical. Mr. Nelson obviously has been in education for a long time, and he should have known better than to put himself in that situation. Like someone else said, it takes little time to ruin a reputation that took twenty years to build. The greatest of people can have a small blemish on their record (not necessarily a criminal one) that can nullify everything else they have done. Is it fair? Probably not. But people are reserved the right to be concerned. I'm sure the Colts organization knew this issue would come up when they announced him on their staff. Hopefully they are prepared for the backlash (at whatever level) and have some kind of response for those who are concerned about Mr. Nelson's hiring. Regardless, the best of luck to the Colts during their camps and next summer.

  10. Hey Justin. I never marched corps, but I did lose my mom suddenly a few years ago. I'm sorry for your loss. It's unbelievably hard to deal with the illness then loss of a parent and the aftermath that comes with it. I know I had to take on a lot more responsibilities due to having a younger sibling. It kept me from continuing with some of my passions. However, like you are doing, I eventually got back in the saddle, so to speak. All of this is to say good luck with marching your age out. I'm sure it will feel amazing to be back out on that field doing what you love. Keep working hard and have fun!
  11. I had a friend who switched from alto sax to baritone. He ended up marching for 5 season b/w two corps. Another friend of mine, just this past year, went from flute to baritone and marched with Teal this summer. She pretty much learned how to play from them, but she made sure to put in a lot of practice in between camps.
  12. Don't worry. I feel the same way about Phantom 2008... still don't get what the fuss was about. Haha. I'm a huge fan of 2006, however. Like someone else mentioned, everything just clicked. The story was great, the hornline sounded fantastic, and the ballad was beautiful. In regards to The Cavaliers during that year... I listen to that show all the time (it's the 2nd most played show on my iTunes). I can recall the music easily. As I'm listening to it, I can see the drill taking place. But hey, that's just me.
