Looks like you’re stuck with Flo...
Beckham replied to Newseditor44's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
If you watch through a browser use uBlock Origin. It gets rid of the RM ads and any others that are inserted by the video player and aren't actually part of the live stream. As a bonus it gets rid of ads on Youtube too. -

Band Cancellation Tracking
Beckham replied to Old Corps Guy's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Interesting where many other circuits are canceling their seasons, often with a unanimous vote, but MCBA states that 96% of their membership supports moving ahead with a full slate of October shows with only state championships cancelled. Knowing band directors, I somehow get the feeling there was less of a consensus in that meeting than they claim. -

Symphonie Fantastique

Looks like Guardians and White Sabers were the two most recent to use it, in 2016. http://dcxmuseum.org/index.cfm?view=search&song=Symphonie Fantastique -
Did Carolina Gold get approved?
Beckham replied to wolfgang's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
They've been contacting high school band directors in the Carolinas to advertise auditions to their students. Hope nobody gets burned. I knew some kids who were in Coastal Surge in 2015. They paid their money, moved in with the corps and worked their tails off, and then had the rug pulled out from under them. None of the ones I knew ever even considered auditioning for another corps after that experience. On the positive side, at least Carolina Gold is an established organization with years of touring in DCA under their belts. So maybe it is a bit different than a group that has only been around for a year or two and done SoundSport. Still, DCI's diligence on making sure their finances are in order makes complete sense. -
2006 Santa Clara Vanguard -Moto Perpetuo
Beckham replied to Ghost's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
IIRC he was injured early on so they put him in that role. Pretty sure he returned in 2007 and was a soloist. -
So someone is going to be in a banana suit, right? Maybe the drum majors.

What would you think if...
Beckham replied to One n Done's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
A week ago at the Winston-Salem show I sat in the blast zone, after a certain corps performed I turned to my friend and said that I thought it REALLY sounded like they had individual players mic'd all over the field, in addition to their way too hot soloist mics. Interestingly this happened to be the only top 6 corps that I haven't seen mentioned by name in this thread.... bluecoats -
FloMarching month-to-month subscription
Beckham replied to KRtrumpet182's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I still see the monthly option when I log into my currently not "pro" account. At least this year they kept the monthly price at $29.99. IIRC the last couple years they bumped it up to $49.99 just before the season started. -
Joey Chestnut...drum corps fan
Beckham replied to swmstom's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
According to BD's member page there was a Paul Chestnut that marched baritone in 2000 and 2002. (BD actually has a publicly available corps roster from each year on their website) -
They need to find a way to dampen the lids of the storage compartments in the props better than they currently are. The sound of those things slamming shut cut right through the hornline.

I did make it out for ensemble tonight. A few thoughts.. -That beginning, yeah it's loud..though it's assisted. -It looked to me that the rain has put them a bit behind in the visual department in adding and getting forms cleaned up. Not a worry though, they'll get there. -The earlier poster who was not as hyped about Gabriel's Oboe, I agree. It's good but it's missing something. The flugel duet needs some reworking and balancing I think. -I really REALLY like the show concept. This is going to be their best show design in many years. I'm pretty sure I have it figured out based on the props and some of the pre-recorded voice. It may not be apparent to all on first viewing, though I think there is more to be added. I won't give too much away, but think along the lines of certain mathematical patterns and how they repeatedly show up in reality.

The Friday show would be cool, but I think I may try to go Thursday if the weather cooperates. I live about an hour and a half away so driving that distance I'd like to watch ensemble for a couple hours.

Anybody know when the corps will be leaving GW? Can't make the preview on Sunday so I'd like to make it out to watch ensemble one evening this week.
