  1. I noticed INT's lines were very cluttered in Indy however. They'll need to work on that next season. I'd like to see INT move up. But I just don't see it happening. Still in all, it would pain me to lose INT.
  2. The new Corps Director has been chosen. His name is Stan Still.
  3. And I predict that between August 9th, 2009 and August 6th of 2010, that we will have over 6,000 predictions of one sort or another
  4. Since this is an eastern coastal thread, I think we can add the Boston Crusaders to the mix of Corps now that will draw a good talent pool. There is a lot of positive " buzz " around the Boston Crusaders now that they have a new, young Corps Director in charge there that the recruits and marching members seem to really relate to from what I'm hearing. ( I think he's probably the youngest Corps Director in World Class DCI )
  5. Here's what I think..... and don't get me wrong, as you're probably mean well...... but if you are picking a Corps because you'd "rather be part of something a bit more relaxed ", then here's my prediction : If that Corps picks you...... and several others with this relaxed preference attitude...... that Corps is GUARANTEED not to win a Title. This is my strongly held belief. That said, best of luck with whatever you decide .
  6. No. This is like asking people that because of the North Carolina Tar Heel Basketball success, will the Duke Blue Devils be negatively impacted ? The answer is " no ". That's because these programs don't " recruit "........they " select ". The top 7 or 8 Corps will have no difficulty finding the right bodies out of the hundreds that will audition from all over the world, not just regionally.
  7. I didn't say Crown " couldn't ". I said that the odds were overwhelmingly against it happening, and that it's unlikely. Crown has never beaten BD. Lets not forget this. Crown, in my opinion has an equal if not better chance of finishing LOWER in placement next year, than higher. I think Crown's chances of finishing 3rd ( or lower ) next year is at least better than their chances of beating all 3 of these Corps in the same year to win it all. If on the other hand, you think it's " likely " that Crown will beat all three of BD, Cadets, Cavs ( and all others ) next year to win it all, that's cool too.
  8. Not if the Blue Devils staff, as expected, remain in place. Plus, I look for the Cadets and Cavaliers to rethink what they are doing and to both come out with more creative and cutting edge designed shows next season. It is rare indeed for a Corps like Crown to simultaneously hit the Trifecta by knocking off ALL THREE of the BD, Cavs, Cadets in the same year. It was an amazing accomplishment for them to knock off 2 of the three at Finals this year ( despite Cadets claim that a single Percussion judge went over to the Dark Side on Finals Night ). I can see Crown possibly beating 2 of these 3 Corps again next year. ( I can see them losing to all 3 too ). But I just don't see Crown beating ALL THREE next year to capture a title. Crown also reportedly has a lot of age outs this year. But then again, maybe they beat the odds and win it all. I just wouldn't bet the farm on it right now, that's all.
  9. Here's the analogy : The Concord Blue Devils Drum Corps = The Duke Blue Devils Basketball program. Any further questions ?
  10. On the Bluecoats, I wasn't quite sure if they constitute an east or midwest Corps, but Canton, Ohio sure seems " midwest " upon further reflection. I wouldn't call this a down year for them by any means. The Corps in the middle are so strong these days, and they more than held their own. They scored in the 93-94 range, and that's signifys to me that as a midwest Corps and based upon reasonable placement expectations by non afiliated fans, ,they carried their weight from the Midwest it seems to me. ( loved their final musical number by the way )
  11. I'm inclined to think that this year does not portend a trend of decline of the Midwest based Corps, but simply an isolated peculiar set of circumstances that befell some of these Corps this year.
  12. I was thinking that maybe some of these Midwest Corps were having some difficulty getting marching members from around their area compared with previous years. I don't really know the reason. I just can't think of a DCI season that was so difficult and disappointing for Midwest Corps. This region historically usually does very well.
  13. 2009 was not a year that overall was favorable to Corps from the Midwest. Anybody know why ? Is their recruiting base down in their locale ? Is this the start of a trend ? Or was 2009 just an isolated abberation and these Corps will rebound next year ? What do posters think ? Lets examine 2009 for the Midwest Corps : The Cavaliers...... 2009 is the first year in a decade ( since 1999 ) that they failed to medal. Phantom Regiment..... defending champion fell to 9th here in 2009. Nobody would have predicted this back in the Spring. Blue Stars.......... did reasonably well placement wise, but quite a few thought this Corps had huge momentum from last year that would catapult them up the standings this year. Madison Scouts..... good grief. This Corps reminds one of the once pretty girl that has 6 cosmetic surgeries, and after that, the girl is no long pretty and she's unrecognizable. Colts........... looked early on to be a lock for 12th back in early July, but then came up short to a Corps from the West and failed to make Finals. In Open Class Competition, that division was likewise dominated at the top by the West and the East Coast Corps. So what gives ?
  14. INT has wasted no time in announcing to the public that their 2010 theme for their show will be entitled " Constantly seeking absudity, while not quite seeing it ".
  15. INT will be developing a feeder Corps this off season. Fans of INT will be hungry for news on this development. So stay tuned for details.
  16. DCI is " copycat ", and there is nothing inherently wrong with that. For example, last year Phantom Regiment had a marcher subplant the DM on the podium in their Title show. To no surprise, other Corps this year ( Crown, Bluecoats, etc ) copycatted that and had marchers get up on the DM podium to subplant the DM in directing, or to make him take off his top uniform, and so forth. Look for more props next year, now that BD won with the creative utilization of chairs. As for Crown, I see an identity pattern developing of " whimsy " with them. Musically and visually. Their themes the last 3 years have been of whimsical horse races, whimsical fun in their interpretive musical arrangements of the classics last year, and the whimsical characters symbolized with the Guard and certainly evident in the Crown guard costumes worn this year.
  17. slotting reared it's ugly head once again regarding INT.
  18. My opinion is that as much as I liked the Colts, Academy, this year, I don't thnk even THEY think that they should have made the Finals this year over that of the Phantom Regiment. So in my opinion, your train went off the tracks regarding how you viewed the Colts, Academy, relative to that of Phantom Regiment this year. Boston and Blue Stars were slightly better via the whole package over that of Phantom Regiment. But your comment that " a case can be made for Phantom not to make the Finals " , and only stayed in Finals because " their name " is frankly one of the most ridiculous observations I 've read on here in quite some time. It just goes to show you the wide diversity of opinions there are among Drum Corps fans. Just when you assume that everyone thinks that at the very least Phantom Regiment might struggle to stay ahead of fine and improved Corps this season like the Boston Crusaders and the Blue Stars this year, a poster comes on and thinks that the Troopers ( God Bless them ) should maybe have beaten out Phantom this year, and maybe even the Colts, Academy, and God knows who else. I like DCP. It exposes me to people who's views on these Corps is certainly interesting, to say the least.
  19. It was inevitable that eventually this would happen in my opinion. Nobody had more of the high risk, high velocity drill than did the Cadets this year. The fact that a marcher fell down in the high risk, high velocity drill is not surprising. The fact that it led to score diminishment in the percussion line from which the fallen member participated in is likewise no surprise. The fact it cost the Cadets a placement positition also is no surprise. What WILL be a surprise however is if the Caderts will not rethink this high velocity drill in light of this outcome in the off seasoin and next year won't tone down the high velocity drill moves and offer up a visual program in which performers perform with the use of props and in a more stationary and more vertical approach with their visual as opposed to going mostly horizontal moves at great speed like they did this year. The Cadets will rethink this stylistic approach in the offseason. I'm certain of it. They won't want to put themselves in such a high risk position like this again next year. They saw the path the Blue Devils took visually to attain their title. And the Cadets staff show designers are are not dummies. They'll adjust to the changing landscape that the Blue Devils of 2009 have now ushered in.
  20. Well said. Just a very classy production from them this year. I really enjoyed them this year.
  21. Were you at the show, or did you see the performances to compare the percussion lines and state " the Cadets were outstanding tonight " the same way we see INT ?
