  1. The 'double-music' part of 89 is still one of my favorite moments in drum corps history. I hope C2 does it verbatim. This show announcement means that the winner over Labor Day weekend is... ... the DCA fans in attendance.
  2. Having a drink while judging is too casual. Not professional.
  3. Guaranteed highlights: Eric Carr on quads @ 5:15 The 3 bass drums ensembles - Empire, Brass, AND Cabs! 6:10-6:20 MBI's front line @ 6:45
  4. Bridgeport Show 6/30... You can decide for yourselves!!
  5. It is already the task of judges to compare "apples" to "oranges" so I don't see a problem with DCI and DCA groups competing against one another. Of course, the DCA groups would get beaten by most or all of groups that rehearse daily. But there are DCI corps in Open Class that have limited tours, and limited rehearsal time. I think Skeptic was very much in the ballpark when he placed the top of DCA around 25th place. It would be very cool to see a DCA corps show up to the DCI quarters now that there is the new all-skate format, and see how they stacked up. There would be several challenges (show designed with DCA's rubric in mind, judges' first read, etc.) and the risk would probably outwieigh the reward, but it could be a hype for that group if they did well!
  6. Thanks for thinking about the idea of a pro drum and bugle corps with a open mind.

  7. The pragmatist in me knows that we are tremendously far from having the financial capabilities and general popularity to make this happen. But it's not going to keep me from daydreaming about it. I'd love to see DCP posts like "Can you believe they drafted a quad player with their 1st round pick?!" or "with that payroll can ANYONE beat SCV?"
  8. Love this topic! These come to mind... (I'm a 90's drum corps fan) Crown 96 They turned the field into a chess board. SCV 91 The opening batterie add-on roll that was spread across over about 50 yards. Devs 99 playing a fortissimo horn moment from the back of the end zone.
  9. Nice! Cool program! Herrmann is always great on the field. "Uninvited" is a beautiful tune, and Crazy Train... well, I'm eager to see what the group does with it. I bet it rocks!
  10. Congratulations! Best of luck this season and beyond.
  11. Which class fits for your organization? As the group grows in size, I'd imagine so does the budget, logistics, etc. Do you have the infrastructure to handle and adapt to that? The activity has lost so many groups whose ambitions overreached their foundation. I'd say only make the move to open if you feel confident it's sustainable. That being said, people love to be a part of a group that is growing, and setting new standards for itself. Moving classifications is the sort of thing that can get a "buzz" going within your regional marching community. I don't know what I'm arguing for or against. I'm just offering my perspective. Or maybe just musing on drum corps over my lunch break... Thanks! It has been an awesome break!
