  1. And it's Christmasey, too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n33KOXXRYDk
  2. You are correct on all points--I misspoke and hit the "post" button. That said, I still think it's not a bad idea for a corps to see what *is* in the public domain and NOT under copyright, domestic or internationally, to design a show around. And you don't necessarily have to go through third-party copyright clearance to do it.
  3. Under current U.S. law, they don't have to do copyright clearance if it's a public domain work with no copyright, which is likely for those works by composers who've been dead at least 70 years.
  4. I would think that many corps administrations would appreciate not having to go through the hassle and expense in terms of obtaining publishing/arrangement copyright clearance. Maybe not?
  5. It's time for corps to explore shows featuring either public domain works OR finding creative ways to incorporate fair use. I'd love to see a corps come up with a show concept based on fair use, LOL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJn_jC4FNDo
  6. Closing of the survey is coming soon! I’m conducting research on drum corps archives and the different types of materials that are collected. I’d like to hear from you about your corps’ archival materials and how they are being collected and stored. I’m collecting this data in the hopes that the professional archives community can help provide some guidelines and best practices to both corps and private collectors in terms of their archival collections. The data collected will shed some light on what materials are being collected and how they are being stored and preserved so that past, present and future performers and fans can enjoy and learn about the drum corps activity. The survey should only take a few minutes, and your responses are completely anonymous. Please take the survey one time only! Responses will be collected until the survey is closed on July 1, 2015. Questions marked with an asterisk (*) are required. Survey data will be collected online at this link: http://goo.gl/forms/VtOKYUcO7z If you have any questions about the survey, please email me at gjchaf2@uky.edu I really appreciate your input!
