  1. Are people seriously trying to discuss this topic? Comparing Madison and Regiment is like comparing beluga whales and possums.
  2. Common misconception going around that West Coast tours are not worth the money. However, they do receive more money from souvies, etc, etc and also reaching more fans. To say Regiment has plenty of money to spare so they can go out West for the heck of it is hilarious.
  3. Why can't it be a combination of the two? Regiment in 2008 had great design, great staff, great talent (there were a lot of age-outs, and they all had marched multiple years). Though, it does bring up discussion that the top corps usually get the best pick of the litter (talent wise). This will then affect how the corps does, and then it would affect staff, design, etc.
  4. You aren't promoting discussion, you're promoting flaming of the corps whether you realize it or not. The very fact you are so adamant about it means you want your voice to be heard. What are you accomplishing by voicing this concern? Raising awareness? I don't see how it isn't negative. You're coming off as this guy that pretends to know what he is talking about to prove a point about your philosophy. At who's expense though?
  5. I don't know if your friend would appreciate that you are rampantly posting what they shared with you about their experience on these boards. In any case, at this point it's anecdotal evidence of one member, and you keep saying things as if you are in the "know". Just because you heard it from maybe a few members, doesn't mean you know everything about the drum corps and how it runs. Did those things happen? Probably. I would say in most corps, someone will have a bad experience or not so great times. You paint a picture that the visual caption heads always yell at the top of their lungs at the members, and that is simply not the case. Where one member had a bad experience, another member the experience of a lifetime. Does that justify the wrongs? Not exactly, but my point is that Regiment is not always "bad". In fact, I find it incredibly rude and disturbing that this topic has shifted to bashing the visual program. To say that they haven't been successful in feet at all and they are terrible teachers is appalling. Never in any activity have I met so many "experts" on how to properly march and how to properly play. If you're so great at it, please help out at a drum corps of your choice. In the mean time, please stop this nonsense. G'day.
  6. I don't think all white would have aided them though.
  7. Man, it's a good thing this thread is about BD and how they should possibly win two in a row again. You're really contributing a lot to the topic at hand. No, I'm kidding. Seriously, take it to messages... stop bringing up arguments from 2008. It's over. Done. If anyone cared, they would've asked. /end rant
  8. You can always stick it to them and keep showing up even after they cut you... they can't really turn you away once you're there!
  9. Most people cut themselves before they even go. You'll never know until you try.
  10. Just remember when you're building up that you set goals for yourself. Like today, I'm going to not break for 5 minutes... etc. You need to have a good posture as you hold it too and not breaking constitutes as not shifting your hands to distribute weight better. Start small... either just the baritone (if it's a baritone that's like...4-6 pounds) or lighter and hold it up. Look yourself in the mirror. If you can't get a horn, just get a free weight and hold it out.
  11. They basically cut out the beginning - mid 2nd movement. Something happened with the Dance of Ecstasy and it was removed from the DVDs. Along with the perfect fifths in the giant ray set. That's why when you watch the newer version of the DVD... the 1st movement ends in a giant arc type form and then magically everyone appears on the other side of the field. Nothing from the show was really... lost, but it is a bummer. PS: The cut on the audio CD is from 3:30 to 4:30... so about a minute total was lost... I don't have the exact number from the DVDs as I don't have it with me. The other thing that was cut was the audio from the Troopers show. I don't know the details on that though.
  12. What makes anything so special? Probably has some relation to you (or in this case, lack thereof). People have their opinions and you just didn't like their show. OT: I didn't like Crown's show very much this year (09) but people seem to be raving about it. Oh well, that's their opinion and I have mine.
  13. Yes, corps that consistently do well have a great staff.
