  1. Only to the ones who actually deserve it. Unfortunately the one who didn't got one. It's the DCA way.
  2. If Reading is the best corps on the field then so be it. However, The passed few years I'm not seeing this. Yet they are being used as the yardstick. While I was not at finals and watch the live feed from the comfort of my living room on Big Screen and Surround sound..which by the way was pretty impressive, and maybe this is good for the corps and maybe its not. But lets be realistic here. Based on what fans are seeing they were not the most stellar corps on the field. From what I saw on the thread others have said the same who were there. So I feel that what Lee is saying has merit. Maybe HIS suggestions in most cases are completely unrealistic, but the reason for them are not. Champions are out there. They just aren't in first place. It's a sad state of affairs and is making it less desirable to go to shows or even pay the nominal fee for live feed when you have to remove yourself from the competition aspect of the activity. I watch some really great shows but know that results will never parallel the performances. I feel horrible for the members who go out there every weekend and show clear improvement and because of some bureaucratic hypocrisy not get rewarded for it.
  3. I would only agree with that if all shows were created equal. But they are not these days. The demands put on the performer's alone dictate how a judge can sample a show. Only makes logical sense to put them in the stands. Not just for a bigger picture of the whole ensemble but for safety as well. And there is the even larger front ensembles. All just leaves too little for a single on the field judge to rank and rate properly. At least from my perspective.
  4. Seems to be a pointless caption as to how current shows are designed these days.
  5. I understand that isolating individual proficiency is good on an analysis bases. But most if not all of those small technique issues would never make it up to the box anyway. So in the grand scheme of today's performances, how would it benefit a corps? It seems the best vantage point to view the overall product would be from the spectator's POV. At least that seems to make the most sense.
  6. Here is a perfect example of someone posting an opinion disguised as a statement or fact over in the review forum. "To be honest, other than the Bucs, most Seniors aren't even in the same zip code as the Juniors in terms of content". But it is this effect generating content that seems to rule the day in the modern drum corps activity, and it is the corps whose program most closely approaches the modern paradigm of the activity, as defined by World Class DCI, that will stand the best chances of competing. As I mentioned in another thread, it is the show that is written last November that ultimately determines the DCA Champion on Labor Day weekend. Though I can say the rest of his comment has credence.
  7. I have to agree. DCP even with it's moderators, You get trash talked, abused, and lets not even talk about how you bash one corps or another on here. But usually its really only one corps that most people ON HERE tend to trash talk. I need to find these Facebook groups. I can only imagine the commentary being much lighter and promotes the activity positively. It's funny that the topic comes up ON DCP of all places since, its DCP that frightened everyone away. Sorry to say.
  8. The spread between Bucs and Cabs were .1 in VEns and VEff respectively. Actually C2 won VEns by .2 over Bucs, It's clear the numbers by the guard judge would indicate he was at another show!! Even with the Ensemble and Effect spreads being what they are, had the number reflect the actual performance even if Cabs remained in 3rd of 4th with an equivalent spread. Cabs would still have won the show by a .5 or at best almost a point. Like I mentioned from a guard who has been pretty proficient most of the summer, 1.2 would tell me they broke down the entire performance which if it was that bad, I would imagine would have a trickle effect in the other captions a well. Guard "placement" not withstanding, that seems like a completely unworthy effort by the adjudicator.
  9. I'm not questioning placement in that particular caption. I am questioning a 1.2 spread in one caption that clearly decided the outcome of the show where it doesn't seem to weigh in equally in the other visual captions. 1.2 tells me a complete breakdown in performance. C2 was down in guard to Cabs both in Lynn and in Clifton by .9 respectively. A guard who has been that proficient even on a bad night wouldn't have suffered that sever of a breakdown unless they went on strike and sat down through the entire performance and no way that wouldn't have trickled down in the other captions as well even just a little.
  10. The spread in guard between C2 and Bucs at Dtown was .1 and only .4 in VEns and and the same for VEff. Just based on the Scranton recap the spreads are not commensurate to the corresponding visual captions. C2 was 1.2 over Cabs in guard while Cabs were .3 over them in VEns and and .5 over in VEff. If Cabs guard was as atrocious as the spread would have you believe, you'd think the VEns caption alone would also reflect that as well no?
  11. Actually a good example where a particular judge may or may not have provided the best possible number. As per the recap for Scranton, while I can possibly agree with the ordinal for the guard caption, it appears that his number determined greatly the outcome of the show. I have seen most of the these corps at least once this year. And the top 3 guards have been super tight. While not at Scranton, I can't see such a huge spread considering the visual and visual effect numbers do not necessarily agree. Bad number management maybe?? And being only down by .05 had his number being somewhat close if not weighted equally to that of the visual and visual ex caption, Cabs would have won. Based on his number you'd think Cabs guard wasn't present at the show.. which I find hard to believe. If they do reexamine numbers at the end of the show, I don't see that this caption was judged equally. Just MPOV!
  12. With all the conspiracy theorists out there looking for answers. How many of you actually purchased a ticket to this show?
  13. That's ironic. I pictured you in that crowd of old folks.
  14. Having been to many DCI and DCA shows this season I've encountered more mom's and pops at Allentown, Chester and Rutgers shows specifially and was unfortunate enough to purchase tickets near what appeared to be several marching band that occupied whole sections. I'd probably not do that again. Most of those around me have never seen a drum corps show live but a few parents who may have marched 20 plus years ago. And then they announce all the guest schools in attendance. It was a hefty number. As for the DCA shows I went to most in attendance were alumni who were around me. All of whom wore their corps jacket or corps paraphernalia proudly. And laughingly appeared to know at least one person marching in every corps there. One or two claimed to have taught a corps or two while another claimed to have judged. A much older demographic in general but quite a few more young adults in attendance as well. That was actually very promising.
