  1. Jim Ancona announced as Crown Front Ensemble Designer and Caption Head
  2. Mostly new people in the entire line, but significantly more talent than the past few seasons from what I understand. The center snare is the Cadets center snare from 2012 and 2013. But yeah, this video makes me really, really excited to hear the Crown percussion section this summer.
  3. Not sure what is so funny? I'm talking strictly about the brass section here, by the way. I know lots of kids who auditioned at Crown within the past 2 years and got cut, then went to Devs. Things are a lot different than they used to be.
  4. Its a very competitive brass line in terms of talent level and such. It would be a little less difficult than making Crown's line. If you can play with a great sound, have decent technique, and don't visually look like its your first day in band, you'll probably get a spot.
  5. It's under membership information, then click on 2015 staff
  6. Tony Nunez announced as Crowns pit arranger
  7. Crown didn't play that stuff in those years because they didn't have the talent. If they had, those horn books would have been much harder. Well, they had the talent in 2010 and 2011, but the talent of those lines wasn't really properly utilized.
  8. From what I understand, David Maslanka does not allow drum corps to use his music, so that would make sense. Also, I know for a fact that Bertrand Moren adores what Crown has done with his music in 2012 and 2013. And, finally, while Bernstein may have heard drum corps play his music, those who own it now absolutely HATE drum corps using it. In 2009, when like 10 corps used Bernstein's music-that was the last straw. The Bernstein Foundation now either wants A. the arrangement to be a direct transcription in order for it to be performed (essentially impossible in drum corps), or B. for the corps to pay an ABSURD amount of money in order for the music for be performed. In fact, I also know that this is the exact reason why Blast! no longer performs "Gee, Officer Krupke" or "Appalachian Spring" (Copland's music is also absurdly expensive).
  9. 2011 Cadets....not even close. Blue Devils, Cavaliers, and Crown were all cleaner. Also, 2004 Cavaliers, 2007 Blue Devils,
  10. Best: Jim Coates being hired at Carolina Crown in 2003. He took that corps from a 16th place finish in 2002 to winning 4 Jim Otts and a DCI World Championship in only 10 years with his staff hiring process and commitment to keeping good staff around for a long, long time, as well as improving the quality of life in the corps, the look of the group, the strength of the organization, etc. Without him, the Carolina Crown as we know it today would not exist.
  11. Like I said, maybe they can play with the same proficiency.....but they don't.
  12. At a guest lecture by John Cage at the Eastman School of Music back in the 1970's, the composer was taking questions from the audience. A disgruntled person in the audience proceeded to tell Cage, "ANYONE could write your music!" The composer responded by saying "Yes, but no one does" Could other corps play what Crown plays? Maybe, but no one does.
  13. Do you even know what atonal music is? BD is not playing a single atonal piece of music this year, and they also didn't play any in their 2011 production. THE RITE OF SPRING IS NOT AN ATONAL PIECE OF MUSIC.
  14. Super lame. Come join us in the 21st century, DCI.....
  15. Is this show not being broadcast on FN? I can't seem to find it....ugh.
