  1. Hi guys, I have a question that I wanted to ask you all first before I talk to my corps director or the director at my mosque. I'm Muslim, and I also have plans to march this summer. Unfortunately, the drum corps season clashes with the Muslim's holy month of Ramadan, in which we fast for about 30 days from sunrise to sunset. Ramadan is expected to be from July 8th to August 7th, although the dates may vary slightly as the moon sighting determines the exact dates. The only reason I have put this question off for such a long time is that Muslims are exempt from fasting when they are traveling as long as they make it up later, and drum corps is pretty much constant traveling. But, I'm wondering if that exemption ruling still works if the traveling period extends over the entire month. Religion is also very important to me and my family and I would very much like it if I didn't have to miss out on fasting the whole month. My question is, are there any suggestions you guys may have on if there is anything I can do about this? Like, a way to march corps and fast during Ramadan at the same time? The last thing in the world I want to do is tell my corps that I can't march this summer. I know that there should be something possible, as many Olympic athletes fast as well as professional sports players. I still plan on talking to my corps director and the director at my mosque about this as well, just wanted to get a rough idea of what you guys think before I do so. Thanks!
  2. For those of us who weren't granted with perfect 20/20, how annoying is having to deal with visual correction on tour? Which do you prefer, contacts or glasses? Contacts can be great but often get dry during the day and can be a hassle to put on and take off everyday. Glasses can be more comfortable but might get in the way of things, and especially with a pair of sunglasses over them, can get quite clunky. Which do you think is better overall while on tour, or at least which sucks the least?

  6. Wow, that was a quick announcement given that the season ended just yesterday. I'm excited! Go Madison 2013 and congrats on 75 years of awesomeness!
  7. Funny story, (I know this should probably be in the Random Encounters thread, but eh) my sister-in-law who lives in Texas flew in to SoCal last night to visit our family and she said that on the plane she was sitting next to "a band person who was coming back after performing a show in Indiana." She said she tried talking to the girl and was like, "Yeah, my sister-in-law (me) really likes that too. I think her favorite is Santa Clara something..." Then she said that the girl got super excited and almost jumped out of her seat and said, "Oh! Vanguard?!" My sister-in-law felt bad because she had no idea what to talk to her about because no one in my family knows much about drum corps, and I told her that she should've asked where she marched, if she aged-out, what she played, etc. and my sis-in-law was like, "Isn't that getting a little too personal?!" Sigh
  8. Since I only got 2 out of 6 of my initial predictions correct for last year, I'm just going to make fewer predictions and preface them with the same comment. General predictions that very well may change in a few months: - SCV medaling - SCV taking percussion - Cavaliers in top 6 - Scouts in top 8
  9. Shoot, I love drum corps because it's the classiest activity in the whole world.
