  1. Does anyone have any housing or rehearsal locations for the Corps performing in North Texas tomorrow and again next week? Thank you.
  2. it does get into your blood doesn't it?! i bet we could start a whole other thread about parents who have stayed to volunteer long after their kids have aged out.
  3. a suggestion: if, as a parent of a new or potential drum corps member, you are concerned about your child, then volunteer. my youngest son, at 14, was the youngest member of of his corps during their first season. i checked in, went to shows that were close and hopped on for the last couple of weeks of tour. his second year i was even more involved (because i enjoyed it and wanted to help). i know not everyone can spend many days or weeks on tour but contact the corps and find out what you CAN do. it helps the corps and it helps you.
  4. i think we should all rock these at finals: Superhero Attire
  5. I love that at any given Drum Corps show I can say I know someone who is either marching or teaching with almost every corps there. Drum Corps makes the world a smaller place; it makes everyone family, as evidenced by the Teal Sound event. Like any family, we bicker, snark and fuss but when one of us gets in a bind we are there in a heartbeat. That's an amazing thing. Also, passing Drum Corps buses on the highway always makes me feel like a 5 year old who got to see the circus train roll in. It makes me happy!
  6. I think the competition should include a day of meals prepared with just two roaster ovens, a couple of rice cookers and a moody gas grill. No food truck. That was my introduction to preparing 4 meals a day for around a 100 kids/staff/drivers/volunteers! That said, I would thoroughly enjoy watching chefs cooking in the drum corps world. Very fun!
  7. I texted my son after the show to see how it was.. ME: How was that field to march on? I read that it was slightly hill-like. HIM: If by hill-like they meant it's a hill, then yes. It wasn't great.
  8. Here are some picts of the stadium.... Burchfield Stadium can't wait to hear from my kid what it was like to march on it.
  9. I think the whole misunderstanding could have been avoided if the original post on the Cadets FB page (and George Hopkin's as well, the coach and team are getting pummeled over there) would have been worded differently.
  10. Just to take a moment to speak to the whole video blackout thing: I completely understand and respect Crown's request that all videos not be posted until after Akron, however, as a mom, I am so grateful for those snippets of video for the chance to catch a glimpse of my kid whom I haven't seen in over 3 weeks. Because when the texts are few and far between, it's proof that he is surviving the @sskicking that is spring training. And as a proud mom, it's just nice to see him doing what he loves. Here's hoping his rookie year is a championship year!
