  1. Hi Could you repost a list of what you have left? Thanks
  2. "These aren't the (FB) freinds you're looking for" Thanks. You made me SMILE
  3. I would like to mention one thing about Left Coast DCI shows . . . whether it's the Bluecoats, Phantom, Cadets or whomever . . . the out of area corps are greeted with open arms and huge standing ovations. We are not ingorant to the effort and sacrifice that those corps made to come out here. Even if they are the archrival, they will be shown nothing but love. Honestly, how much could we hate on the Cadets, for instance, when two of my Blue Devil buddys, Gino Cipriani and Steve Bentley, are their horn instructors. Maybe BD, SCV, et al should stop going to the Southeast shows for a few years. At least thats how I feel about it. But I admit that I'm in a bad mood because of some of the crap I've been reading on DCP FB page.
  4. eBay Auction Link Up for auction: From my DVD library - The Drum Corps International Legacy Collection Condition = Open, but As New No Scratches, no fingerprints Selling off some of my collection to raise some funds to go to DCA finals. Good Luck, John S. Santa Clara Vanguard 1979 2nd Baritone, 1981 Lead Soprano Concord Blue Devils 1983 LFL Soprano, 1984 UFLSoprano, 1985 French Horn Jim Ott Brass Ensemble - 2011 to Present
  5. Quadman, What's up? No love for the Cache Creek Flaming Seven's Drum and Bugle Corps possibility? Maybe the Thunder Valley Double Down's is more to your liking? That's why I (jokingly) through that out there. In all honesty, I'm back in the bay area again (after 18 years away), and I am always surprised that any of the corps survive at all, given the close proximity to the casinos. I could jump in the car right now and would have my choice of at least 3 different casinos and drive less than 2 hours. On another note, because my family is from Hawaii, it would put a world of hurt in Vegas and the Indian casinos if the Native Hawaiian started up casinos. They're just as indigenous . . . Peace!
  6. On a serious note . . . It absolute BULL #### that we get to see BD, SCV, Blue Knights, Troop, and whomever ventures out here from the East of the Rockies for the FIRST TWO or THREE shows (in Nor Cal). Why does Charolette, NC deserve shows 3/4 of the way through tour with polished shows and scores in the 90's, not 70's. Don't even get me started on the fact that they want us to pay Finals type pricing because the show is in Stanford Stadium - BFD! Some of the Best performances ever in California were in Spartan Stadium (San Jose State). I've said this before, and save your flame throwers because I know what you're going to say if you live west of the Rockies, but virtually every sport has a home field advantage (for best records). In my opinion, the DCI Finals should be held in the state of the previous years DCI Champion. This year it would be in where ever the Cadets are calling home now (they will alway be Garfield to me). Ya'll think there'd be any booing if Saturdays show was in the Rose Bowl (same scores, same placements)???
  7. I've got an idea . . . back in the old days most of the corps were aligned with VFW post. Why not associate each corps with an Indian Casino $$$
  8. I just checked out your website. Very Nice. You what would be cool? A Bonnie Ott signature Mellophone mouthpiece. Don't ya think?
  9. What are you asking for the 2V Frenchy? Any pics? Thanks
  10. Hi, I am interested in at least ONE EACH of the mellophones and sopranos as well as the 2 valve baritone. Can pay with PayPal (or credit card). I will contact the rest of the gang with the Jim Ott Brass Ensemble and see if we can purchase more of the horns. Left a voice message on the number above, but the email support@carolinagold.com came back as undeliverable. Please PM me at your earliest convenience. Thanks John
  11. I agree with just about all of the comments regarding starting on Baritone. Just remember that it's the 2nd heaviest front carried horn in the line. I started on trumpet, then went to baritone after I got braces. Frankly, I missed playing the melody, and high notes, and went back to trumpet and mellophone a year later. Yeah, there were a few shows where I got some blood out of the spit valve, but oh well. The braces were the worst with cut wire pointing outward. I started my drum corps career with SCV on 2nd Baritone. I eventually lead soprano with SCV in 1981 with my braces still on. After I got the braces off, I completely lost my lip. I joined The Blue Devils and played LFL-Soprano (4th) to get my lip back in 1983 - no more baritone for me. The following year I was joined the ranks of the famous UFLS. As for the private lessons - I would say worry about that AFTER you've decided that brass is your instrument. I didn't take my first private lesson until I was a senior in high school. You'd do well by contacting my friend Mike Quillian with the Oregon Crusaders (shameless plug). Mike, like me, is an alum of the 76th Cavalry Band - Indepedence HS, San Jose as well as an undefeated DCI champ with the Blue Devils (79, 80, 82).
  12. Hi, Interested in the 2V horns. Can you email me pics and prices to johnsteaveson@yahoo.com Thanks!!! John Steaveson SCV 79, 81 Blue Devils 83 - 85 Jim Ott Brass Ensemble 2011 - current
