  1. OK. Knock me over with a feather. DCI.org Support stepped up. Kudos to them! I sent an email to DCI and got a link to a 2020 DCI Refund Form. (Ticketmaster tickets will automatically refund is about 30 days.) So for DCI.org tickets... fans can do what they want to do OR what have to do. This form covers requests for Friend of DCI Membership, Friend of DCI Additional Tickets, Super 3 Ticket Package, DCI Tour Premier Event(s) Here's the link ->https://dciticketing.formstack.com/forms/2020refundrequestform Please use it wisely. And, stay safe out there!!!
  2. Same question... if you take like seats in 2021, OR donate to DCI... who's to say DCI will still be around to make good on either of those alternatives? The pandemic will continue until people have been inoculated against it, until then we're just playing whack-a-mole with it. Sorry to sound so cheery about it.
  3. Think your comments are spot on, Tim. There's a very good possibility that some of the money is already spent, maybe in advance of this season, maybe to cover losses from a previous season. Contractors do this all the time, collect money from one project to pay expenses from another. Starting to smell a lawsuit here.
  4. Seriously? The thing to do here Jeff, is to try to force yourself to think of other, less-fortunate people.
  5. As much as I love Drum Corps, I think it would be huge mistake to assume that ticket money paid for canceled 2020 events would be automatically donated to any organization, corps or promoter. The money should be refunded to the buyers and let them figure out what to do with it. It should be a personal decision because some people need it for family expenses, to live on while they're out of their jobs, donating to a local food bank, or donating to local humanitarian charities. Yeah, lots of us can afford to let the money go to member corps, but I think it a mistake to do that in light of the gravity of this human and economic disaster, everyone's situation is unique, and we're all at risk. There's a side effect of this that should be considered. The most-devoted drum corps fans, the ones that plan their entire summer around it, tend to buy their tickets early. Allentown offers their 2-day ticket package only in October. Done that myself, and I travel there from California. So not refunding, keeping the money as a donation, is a decision that DCI would be making for its best customers. The last-minute buyers who had not yet bought tickets would still be whole and able to spend their money on more essential things. IMHO
  6. I am born and raised in Rome, NY. Forever, the best place for Italian in Rome is The Savoy(#3 3.5stars on Yelp!), been the best since I was a kid. Expensive by Rome standards but will not disappoint, I think it a great value. Definitely NOT a place for a quick bite before the "Drum Pageant" as we used to call it, you need more time. Very nearby is a restaurant called Teddy's(#1 4stars on Yelp!), is listed as Italian, it is THE closest restaurant to Rome Free Academy Stadium, just a level 15 minute walk up Linden Street. Yes, its an Italian place but if you're a local or live in central New York, you know what the term "Fish Fry" means. I've been there dozens of times when I visit my old home town and for my money, they make one of the best regional Haddock "Fish Frys" on the planet. Many restaurants offer it on Fridays (Catholic customers, you know) but Teddy's has it available every night of the week. I don't think I've ever gone in there for Italian food. If you're from out of the area, give a Fish Fry a try, If you do, you'll probably do it again next time.
  7. That's two unbelievable debachles I've witnessed in Drum Corps shows, last one was the "Moonlight Classic" at Sacramento State in 2012. At intermission, there was an extended delay, the the announcer finally came on the PA and kindly asked everyone to leave the stadium, for safety reasons. They couldn't get the stadium lights turned on, the organizers didn't get the key to the room where the switches were. So each of SCVC, BDB, Phantom, BD and SVC all had to settle for a standstill in the parking lot by their respective buses. No scoring for anyone at the event. That was the last of Sac State as the venue for The Classic. All those ticketholders screwed.
  8. Alright! SCV Best in the west. But can anyone catch Blu? posted from the DrumScorps app
  9. Please straighten me out on something? So, there are now 35 pages of Suggestion Box items and related discussions here. Is this all just pointless venting? Or does someone official at DCI read this stuff, evaluate suggestions on their merits and maybe prioritize suggestions for future board consideration? Does anyone in an official capacity at DCI respond/react to suggestions that are made here? Does anyone at DCI have the job of listening to the fan base? ( ( ( ( I've got plenty of suggestions for the NFL and MLB, and there are plenty of places online where I can document them for discussion... but, going in, i KNOW I'm wasting my time... I KNOW that these organizations aren't looking for any input from me whatsoever. ) ) ) )
  10. The sad thing, for those of us that weren't around, or weren't paying attention way back when is that we may never be able to go back and "look up" the '07 Colts, '72 Anaheim Kingsman or the '92 Velvet Knights in order to understand what you're talking about. If I wanted to see what was so great about any of these corps, I could not. Essentially, DCI history is gone, buried but for the memories of the diligent old-timers here. I'd love to know more about the history of DCI, but now, there's no way I could ever study it. Does anyone have any real information on... is there any real work being done on bringing back the DCI fan network video archives? Or, realistically , is this gone forever? p
  11. My list in order... SCVanguard - Always a crowd pleaser, its a shame they don't score better. LIGHT 'em up! Bluecoats - Show designs have been brilliant, fun to watch. Bloo will be the next new champion. Cadets - Always loved them. Hated all the narration last year but "10" was great... I still call 'em Garfield. Crown - Fun show to watch Phantom - Loved the Claire De Lune Honorable mention Blue Knights Rarely making my list is Blue Devils, indisputably excellent, but not interested in seeing their shows more than once. What was "re-write of spring" all about?
  12. Regarding my earlier suggestion to get the fans involved in the judging with text messages. Pure and simple is a popularity contest, by definition it will be biased, that's what fans do. I don't see a problem with that at all. Here in the age of fan voting on reality shows and talent shows, I think it works, people want to be involved. No, not everyone in the stands at a drum corps show is a drum corps expert, not everyone is going to vote objectively, hardly anyone in the stands is a there for their first-ever drum corps show. Whatever the case, a small bit of the score determined purely by what the fans enjoyed, might keep people from wondering if the judges really saw the same performances that they did. If you want to talk about what will make drum corps thrive and grow going forward, I'm almost certain that rewarding technical perfection is not going to do the job because most fans don't see the problems/tics that the judges do. People cough up real money to see these shows, they only get to see one DCI show a year first hand, if you entertain them, if you move them and touch their hearts, if you impress them and then engage them in the scoring, they'll be back and they'll bring their friends. My money's on "General Effect-3" that gives the fans(that paid to be there) a voice. Hmmm maybe the fans that paid to see the show on DCI Live! should be included as well, that'll cover us fanatics.
  13. Cappybara - Thanks for using the word "incompetent". Do you know if we're talking about DCI's digital crew per se? I wonder if they simply farmed everything out... the video to NeuLion... the billing to "nmnathletics"? Did they wash their hands of it completely? Is that why things are so screwy? Sometimes I wonder if DCI's sitting back thinking all is well while the technology ship is actually sinking. I surely don't get the feeling that anyone at DCI gives a darn about the problems we're having.
  14. Here are my ideas... 1. Fire Neulion. Evidently they haven't got a clue. Video presentation platform is trash. Doesn't work on iPod/iPhone/iPad or Android anything... and its 2015? I still can't believe that the 2015 DCI Awards Ceremony on YouTube doesn't work, sure it has 60+ thousand hits but I'd wager 90+% of them were unsuccessful. 2. Gotta get the archives back online. And must make it possible to see last night's show, not just while its going on. Maybe DCI could apply for a grant from some musical history association for the arts or even the feds to fund the corps efforts to secure extended copyrighted material usage rights. 3. Something should be done with the scoring system to get the fans that have paid to be present at a show involved. It would be great to see a corps score well because they were a huge crown pleaser even though their execution might not have been as perfect as another corp's. Maybe something could be done to allow the fans to text an address with the corps number of their choice as the corps they most enjoyed... only announce the address in the stadium and only allow texts to be counted if they come in within a 5 minute period. The technology exists, its 2015 and lots of fans have texting capability. Do a field test making it a component of the score, maybe call it "General Effect-Human". Thanks for listening.
