  1. The Skyliners from Wilkes Barre, PA are in immediate need of a quad tech. If interested please PM me. We have a great family atmosphere and teaching environment. 3. Thanks Jeff, I always enjoy reading your reviews. Wish we could have caught up... Teddy Empire......if there was one corps that I felt shouldn't place where it did all weekend, it was Empire. We can debate on the physical demands being placed on corps, and we will, but looking at what else was out there, I didn't feel had those demands...but because they didn't, #### did they play well. This was show was an Empire fan's dream. Greatest hits from all eras...to be honest, I was expecting more in the way of props and costumes...maybe some old blue tuxes appearing. The screamers up front were an addition, not a distraction. Yeah they had their moments, but they didn't take away from the corps behind them. So many style changes in a show isn't easy...two different types of broadway, swing.....a joy to relive so many great moments of Empire history. When Jimmy played the second solo in the Saigon piece, i was instantly transported back to 97. Hearing the Oz tidbits and My Way....so enjoyable. Sunday....what did they have to lose? they let it all hang out! Loved the way the backdrops turned to show each tune "closed", and of course the big banner and smoke led to the revelation of the Mr. B. backdrop in his Sinatra pose. I was disappointed in one thing....the crowd's reaction. I wanted bigger, better and louder. Sure if finals had been up north it would have been, but those members laid it all on the line, and gave us one more Statesmen blast...and hey, they ended up 4th. I'm not going to complain. I'm going to savor seeing the show, reliving the great memories, and seeing David drop to a knee at the end one last time....and this time, I won't give David a hard time about it. How he didn't lose it I'll never know.
  4. These drums are still for sale and in great shape. $7000.00 or best offer. Indoor season is just about completed and the drums will be available 4/15/2013 Let me know, they are in great shape!
  5. The Empire Statesmen, DCA’s perennial finalist and 5-time Champion, are excited to announce their 2013 program entitled “Empire State of Mind”. 2013 commemorates the Statesmen’s 30th and final year of field competition. For this singular season, the design team has assembled a particularly satisfying program based on some of the most engaging productions from Empire’s storied past. Drawing primarily from the vault of Broadway shows that Empire has presented, the 2013 production is designed to fulfill founder Vince Bruni’s vision and purpose: entertain the audience and inspire the members. Led by David Bruni, the Corps begins with a powerful opening fanfare of Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind”. The hot and passionate Prologue and Main Theme to “City of Angels” from Empire’s 2004 Championship year is the first major production. The excitement of this blistering production is likely to be DCA’s favorite opening of the season. Following this is the 1997 Championship production of the beautiful and haunting “Sun and Moon” from “Miss Saigon”. Another Empire favorite was the 2000 production of “Phantom of the Opera”. From this show, the Corps presents the colorful “Masquerade”. Finishing the show is “Over the Rainbow” from 2010’s “Oz” along with the theme that epitomizes the Empire approach to entertainment: “My Way”. The energy, excitement and emotion of this year’s program will be palpable to both audience and performers. You will want to catch this program more than once this season as the Empire Statesmen conclude their outdoor competitive experience with their most crowd appealing and engaging effort ever. As they say at the end of every rehearsal: “See Ya”.

  9. The Kidsgrove Scouts were crowned 2012 DCUK Champs over this past weekend by .15 over The Company. Finals was the first time they have beaten The Company all season. Taking home the awards for High Guard, High Brass, and High effect! To say that I am proud of them is an understatement. I just wish I could have been there to see it live. I had such a great experience working with this group both in UK and in US. Congrats team, now its time for DCE. Good skill, Teddy
  10. All, I am planning to spend the weekend in Allentown and I am wondering how I could find out where groups will be rehearsing. Any help in this matter is appreciated. Thanks a lot
  11. "Summer of Love"? Umm you apparently didn't see my wife and I after retreat. She marched for Brigs and I was with Empire. "Teddy.....Bitter, party of one, your table is now served".....lol
  12. Wow, I had no idea what a gem I was carrying around.
  13. I , being a Northstar was lucky enough to have Guy as one of my first instructors in 1985. I learned alot from him and he really was one of the funniest people I ever met. He ruled with a "velvet HAMMER" approach (Thanks Wormie for the phrase) Kept you engaged with his humor, then stuck his foot up your butt and you never even knew it. God we had a great team back then: Corky, Dickie, Phil, Eddie, Guy, Paul, Dick VB, Bob Codner, Elliot Topalian, Joe Worm, Chris Calhoun....I could go on and on. RIP Guy. Another one of my childhood heroes is gone. A toast to the ol Brig/Northstar Alums....Guy, Phil, Elliot, Bobby C. You are and will always be sorely missed. One of Guy's lines I still used today when the snares interval is too close-"This isn't together dating service"! Just one of the memories.
  14. Tom, Thanks for the plug for our Victor cymbalinas. They will be in full force Saturday evening as The Victor Indoor Drumline will make their last public appearance of "Its about time". With some additional members......hehehe The Empire Statesmen and Victor HS join forces this Saturday. With Allen as the MC you won't want to miss this. Plus we have a great new auditorium at Victor.....See you all Saturday. We need to get Eric Everhart up to play Rio!!!!!!
  15. I would say its a good move despite the fact that he plays mellophone......LOL Congrats I write with Mark alot at Victor, he is very creative and will help the program a ton!
  16. Great choice. Cha Cha is a gem. There is no question she will work hard to put out a respectable product. Love you Cha Cha! Teddy
  17. Cheryl, My thoughts are with you and your family every day. Rick was a great guy. He would do anything for anybody. I called him once or ten times in dire need of tone foam on a Friday before a MB show. I know for most of you tone foam could never possibly be an emergency. If you have ever worked with me, I am sure you all know what a freak I am before shows etc. Rick actually met me in Rochester on a Friday night where he was having dinner with his family so I could have my foam. Just one of the nice things he did for me over the years. When I first started at ESM back in 1991 (my first caption head/writing gig) he would come check out the program all the time for me and answer questions weekly. He would call me all the time, when I answered there was always a chuckle at the other end...."Are you still working for that "Red Cross"?. LOL I actually worked for Blue Cross at the time. He will be missed by so many...... I think I actually have my own Toan Foam T-shirt! God bless Cheryl, Josh, and Sara. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. Teddy
  18. Rick along with Chris Calhoun were my 2 biggest influences when I began drum corps with the Crusaders back in 1988. We used to have such a great time back in those days. Mike Russ used to work with Rick on the Stingray drums back in those days (88 cru debut for those drums) and I used to tag along once in a while. Great stories, great fun, and always trying to make a drum better. I remember the drum parts in Streetplayer and LaFiesta-unreal. That was the first time I met Cheryl (played cymbals) What a great family. In 2001, I was able to (hopefully) return a little bit of the favor when I went to Oswego and had the opportunity to teach Josh. It doesn't fall far from the tree..... Josh has a great passion for the activity and loves to drum (wonder where he got that from??). Josh is teaching at Oswego now. Rick, thanks for all you have done for me and the activity. May you RIP my friend, you were way too young to leave us. Maybe you can work on Slam Dunk-the sequel. His individual solo in 88 that he wrote was just off the charts. Dude woke up with chops-no warm up needed!
  19. I would also like to personaly say how excited I am to have Kirk involved with the Statesmen percussion design. I am lucky enough to work with him on other jobs and I can tell you this is a great thing for us as we evolve our programming. Kirk is a great guy and a wonderful designer! Welcome Kirk!
  20. Hey Jami! Have not been on here in a while. Thanks for the shout out to Patsy and I. We had a good season for NY standards....then I went to Dayton last weekend.......OMG Rhythm X was just out of hand. Along with so many others........ We really aren't even close here in NY but there is so much more interest over the past 3 seasons and groups are definitely getting better. It's kind of exciting and depressing all at once....Beer ME Have a great Summer, and of course I will see you at some point!
  21. The Empire Statesmen are extremely excited to announce that Jimmy Allen has joined our visual staff. Jim Allen has marched, designed for and consulted with numerous bands, drum and bugle corps, and color guards over the past 40 years. He served as the judge coordinator for the New York State Field Band Conference from 1998- 2001 and also served as the Northeast Regional Director for Winter Guard International (WGI) from 1998-2001. During the past twelve seasons, Jim has served as a consultant and visual tech staff member for the Syracuse Brigadiers Senior drum and bugle corps. Jim's influence no doubt played a key role in the Brigs noteable run of championships starting in 1997 and finishing with their 4 consecutive DCA World Championships from 1999-2002. Jim also serves as Assistant Band Director of the University of Buffalo Athletic Bands (marching band and pep band), a position he has held since 2002. Only thing left to say is Jim, I have two words for you-Welcome Aboard
  22. Too awesome for words....tell Gary I am in if he needs someone...all my best the the cabs in 2008!
