Perfect Show? I never knew there was such thing, but Cudos to you mrshowfan! sometimes I try to make myself believe that it was a perfect show...then I think of that stepoff that I slightly leaned into, or the note that I couldn't attack quite crisp enough... having the perfect show...I woudln't even know how that would feel... because what exactly are the standards to being perfect? IMHO nobody would ever really know... it's too bad that the night you had your perfect show everone else didn't catch your strong vibe and tag along...oh well.. you win some (personally) :devin: you lose some (teamwise) right? <**>
I hope you have many more of those to come (must've felt amazing)
Blue Devils took my breath away... I knew right from the start (I heard an early season recording) that they were going to be amazing this year... they sure lived up to my expectations.
GO BD
Something new I just learned while cleaning my contra before Dekalb Prelims... If you boil your mouthpiece..you still have to CLEAN it out... because sure, the gunk and bacteria is clean...but it's still there.... I never knew that boiling the mouthpiece didn't take all that crap out... well..its' clean anyways...
Our mellophones are named "Melly and Nelly" two years ago, the lead sops named theirs "Frick and Frack" ... so when we did our horn ensemble, it was presented by Frick, Frack, Nelly, Melly and Bertha .. great times.. BAB...
Big Bertha is my contra's name... she's a hellova horn!
I got the name from the '99 Blue Devil's contra stance... they do it "Big Bertha" style
One time I was performing at an Old Age home..and one older woman decided to name it a "Giant Flute"..well..the saying was "Don't hit me with that giant flute" .. so. Bertha's nickname is Giant Flute..
Umm... depends on if I'm tired..If it's death camp..then I like to take as long as I can.. usually an hour.. and during the winter, I like to spend from 20-30 minutes warming up... I just got a new mouthpiece and it's so great for embechure so my mouth is already set to it (its' sO much better then the old one I had.) but I think the most important excercise, for me, would have to be "Power Exhales" ..I used to hardly be able to hold a note or phrase for over 8 counts..now I can roughly go to 20 while playing really really soft..or loud.. Warming up is very important for my concentration as well..
ya... my shoulders are turning into mush..i can already feel them falling off my body! haha..and my wrists... I think they have something wrong too..but hey! who said Drum Corps was EASY>?! :)
oh ya! and my old mouthpiece..just sitting on my dresser in my room hasn't moved for a good 2 years... I look in it (through the top! as if i'd actually TOUCH it) once in a while..I see some little green fungus friends inside..they look like green bubbles.. they get bigger every month.. soon they'll take over my whole ROOM! ahhhhhh
Green Goo... and sometimes it's brown.. discusting just thinking about it..I actually think that when I clean my mouthpiece/horn my sound is THIS MUCH WIDER, DARKER, and NICER... it's a pain to clean though.. at home I have to let it soak in my tub!!! grr.. so annoying..but hey! it's worth the final look..so pretty.
