  1. But you can fly into Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for the same price as Indianapolis.
  2. Let's see ... SCOUTS need a bold splash of red ... hmmmm ... I wonder what they could do?
  3. Galen: This doesn't make sense to me: This corps can be updated 1 times per day The number of updates you have made in the last day is 0 This corps can be updated 1 times per week The number of updates you have made in the last week is 1 If I am not allowed to change my captions more than 1 time per week, then isn't the prohibition on changing captions more than 1 time per day superfluous? And personally, I would prefer at least 2 changes per week, if allowed, especially if the permitted points for caption are being increased exactly a week apart - a day or so delay on changing after the increase automatically forces a delay on changing after any other increase, due to the 1 week limit on changes.
  4. Just add a Director's Commentary option to the DCI Finals Blue-Ray ... they could raise the prices to $250!!
  5. While I presume the intent is to refer to the ashes of 150 years ago, this discussion itself is proof that in some minds at least, whether or not it was intended by SoA, the theme will seem as allegory for the corps' response to last year. Which, of course, could put a lot of pressure on the corps.
  6. Some venues would certainly be easier than others to accomplish this. Many high schools have perimeter fencing with limited points of vehicle/pedestrian access to the entire campus. Instead of letting everyone in, and only charging at the stadium itself, just charge an entrance fee to access the campus (not much different than a parking fee). Other venues naturally would be exceedingly difficult to regulate access.
  7. IF the school/band is the host of the show, and not just being used as a favor, or at cost, to some unaffiliated producer. And even when the band is the producer, raising funds from its own members isn't the point of a fund-raising endeavor.
  8. Though I would hope they comp the members of the local marching band, or we're right back to the other thread ... what benefit is the school getting out of all of this?
  9. Yeah, I'm thinking that Russian music would not necessarily be the first choice anyway, if the theme is referencing the rebirth of Atlanta post-Sherman (which seems to be the thrust, especially given that clip on YouTube which was removed).
  10. For Season 24: Name/Corps represented: Eleran/Dewsbury Regulars, Huddersfield Hundred and Mirfield Lockmen Proposal name: Show Awards Proposal description/purpose: Ultimately, this fantasy league comes down to mere number crunching - pick a caption that is likely to bring you scores - and is completely divorced from the creative element that some find even more interesting (and what often drives the love of drum corps in general - the music!). Since some fantasy corps take very seriously the element of selecting a show title/theme/music, etc., and yet none of that translates into the scores in any way .. how about some sort of Award for "Best Show" or something? I'm open to ideas how to implement - it would take a lot of cross-referencing to the "show announcement" thread, of course, but could be something as simple as a Poll thread. Just food for thought.
  11. I don't think it would stop the following folks: "Well, the show kicks off at 6:00, but they won't get to the good corps until about 7:45, so let's plan on arriving at 7:30"
  12. Well, I don't mean it has to be randomized the day of the show ... performance order can be set far in advance. Just don't have the first half of the show be the lower corps, so everyone comes late/hangs in lot/etc. Start with Crown ... follow with Cascades ... then Cadets ... then Genesis ... then Troopers ... then Blue Devils ... then Pioneer ... then Spirit of Atlanta ... then finish with Blue Stars. And push back even harder against the corps that push back ... let them know it's about the integrity of the entire show, and all of DCI, not just the G7.
  13. randomize performance times instead of order of prior placement?
  14. With 2 of our 3 corps meeting up in Kansas today, and Oklahoma tomorrow, key staff members are taking the opportunity to coordinate details of their DCPI Season 24 shows, to be announced in several weeks.
  15. Which, as I think you said earlier, might not be guarantied if there is rain, or if DCI doesn't send enough top-rated corps their way. Board of Education: "Wouldn't a car wash be safer?"
  16. Well, since perhaps it would help people actually clarify the tangible arguments that should be made to local school boards, exactly what ARE the educational benefits to Grover's Mill Township that come with hosting Mid-Western Drum Corps, attending the July 15 Ginormous Championship Show? (a) there isn't a single student from Grover's Mill playing for Mid-Western, or in fact ANY drum corps ... (b) it takes place in July, so there isn't any feasible way to tie it into the local music program, since the students (and faculty) have all scattered to the four winds for summer break © Mid-Western Drum Corps has no ties to the community other than coming through town for this show, since they rehearse and draw their members primarily from two time-zones to the west (d) although there may be a local boost to the economy, that will primarily be realized by local restaurants, gas stations and hotels, who may or may not remember where those dollars came from next October when the high school marching band is seeking advertisements for its own competition book And I'm not posting this because I'm anti-drum corps. But I seriously would like to hear good arguments that could be made to a school system that might persuade them to support non-local drum corps coming through town when school isn't in session.
  17. I'd need more data from all corps to place well-considered wagers: daily food menus heat transference and breathability statistics on uniforms daily description of practice fields running tallies on numbers of members "hooking up" traffic counts and stacking plan for bus bathroom lines
  18. For many people, saying "NO" is simply easier. Saying "YES" leads to further work and effort, and too many people have little interest in doing any extra work. The excuses they give are just cover for the fact that they didn't want to do it anyway.
  19. Sounds good. Look forward to the competitions.
  20. the case may be stronger, but the low hanging fruit of $$$ isn't always bad either.
  21. OK, but since Mirfield Lockmen are not historical, and not a part of either group, should I withdraw them from those two competitions which they are currently scheduled for? Or will those groups just be a sub-competition within the overall shows those days?
  22. I love spats. They keep the blood off your shoes when you rub out another gang with your tommy-gun. I think I still have a pair in my closet.
  23. That is very kind of you. The young members have worked very hard the past several months, and have been overjoyed by the crowd - and judges' - reactions they have been receiving. But can someone explain to me what are the "Fanfare Championships" on the 22nd and the "Class Championships" on the 28th?
