  1. EDIT: I HAVE ENGINEERED MY WAY OUT OF MY PROBLEM AND NO LONGER NEED ANY PARTS. HOWEVER, I AM STILL INTERESTED IN ACQUIRING SOME K-90 PARTS IF YOU HAVE ANY IN BOXES STORED AWAY. PLEASE READ IF YOU DO HAVE K-90 PARTS. THANKS! I need to scavenge some K-90 parts, and I know probably no one has them, but I will ask, anyway. I need the two piston set, meaning the valve casing assembly and the two pistons. Valve stems, finger buttons, caps and springs can all be easily scrounged. The K-90's twin valve casing and the two pistons are NOT easy to locate, however. I am hoping someone has a destroyed K-90 they have kept around as a parts horn and it still has the valves. I cannot pay much but I can drive a long way to avoid the shipping damage that almost certainly will happen if you ship them to me. (Shipping is okay, but we would have to talk about it. I would rather drive a long way, meet a fellow drum corps nut, and make a cash-for-parts sale in person.) The pistons and the casing assembly must still more or less work, the pistons must not have holes in the tunnels or dents in the bodies, and the casing knuckles/ports must not be torn or badly crushed. That is it. If they go up and down but hang badly I can fix that in my repair shop. I am trying to fix up a beater contra for a local kid for a group we are trying to start up in my town. He has no money and I have no money to spare for parts. I am already donating my time, some parts and the needed supplies as well as doing the hunting. If I drop more than a hundred or so into this my wife will skin me alive, heh, heh... So, anyone have a beater K-90 with valves that they would consider removing and selling to me? Or do you have a complete beater K-90 that would want to unload very cheaply? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
  2. That is a great idea. I do not know why I did not think of that... DOH! Thanks!
  3. Here's a Piston/Rotor bump!
  4. Well, can't help you with that, but now we have more information to use, and we bumped your thread back to the top three times. Oh, and are you looking for a donor horn or do you intend to buy? My place to look would be the For Sale and eBay forums at http://www.forums.chisham.com ... but if you want to contact a seller you have to join the group. It is free, though, so no problem with that. If you do not know the answers to the two challenge questions ask me here and I will give them to you. There are no marching tubas for sale there today, but that does not mean this will be the case tomorrow or even later today. It is a pretty active For Sale forum.
  5. Sousaphones, marching tubas, concert tubas? Budget? Tubas have far more variety than any other brass instrument, so you need to help us help you by giving more information about what the school's needs are. Budget is the most important, since even beat up school tubas can cost thousands of dollars. If you can post that I might be able to locate something near you that fills the needs of the band program. Probably not, but I can poke around. Also, are they willing to pay shipping? That will greatly magnify your/their choices. Also, have you tried searching all of CraigsList at once using SearchTempest? I use that a lot and it can be really helpful. Enter your zip code, select which category you want to search (for instance Musical Instruments) and enter some keywords and the mileage from you that you want to search. It will search all CraigsList locations within your selected distance. Very handy! If you simply enter "tuba" you will get a lot of hits, but some will be sousaphones, some will be concert tubas, very few will be marching tubas or decent quality convertible tubas (which I would avoid, anyway). Further, tubas are most commonly found used in BBb, which is what schools use, but they are made in four keys: F, Eb, CC and BBb, so you need to make sure you are looking *only* at BBb tubas. If you want any additional assistance, contact me via the private messages and I can give you some other places to look. Good luck! Wade
  6. I used to be "Periphery" (who posted this on TubeNet for you nearly seven years ago). Did you ever sell the Ultratone piston/rotor contra? I am currently looking for one, or for a specific part at least. Hope you're still around here. I see that you last logged in in 2010, so I am not holding my breath, but if you find this, even years from now, please respond here. Thanks! Wade
