  1. This is what, Genesis' third Wizard of Oz show? Is Wizard of Oz to Genesis as West Side Story is to the Cadets?
  2. Looks like the Cavaliers will indeed perform quite early on next week. Health and safety absolutely come first, but what a shame.
  3. Any word on whether they’re competing tonight?
  4. Well, the Open Class show in SoCal that Flo is also broadcasting tonight should be fine. Shame about both of the other shows getting rained out (not sure if DCI will be allowing scores to get released for Rockford).
  5. I continue to hold out for the Cavaliers’ full recovery soon. Their health and safety is paramount here. That said, if they once again don’t compete tomorrow, they’re going to have to take a pretty early time slot in San Antonio.
  6. DATR already moved their Denver show from the grass field at the Broncos stadium to the turf field at CSU in Fort Collins. I’ve checked, and there’s at least one turf field in Rockford with seating similar in size to Boylan Catholic, so there should be no problem shifting this show to a turf field in the future.
  7. Thanks so much! Their other albums are absolutely worth hearing, too, especially Astoria.
  8. I genuinely had no idea that not only are Les Stentors back, but they decided to travel west this season. Good for them! Nice to see them back to competing and putting the “I” in DCI. Hope they have a great season!
  9. DCI made a huge mistake taking all the Upstate NY shows off the schedule. Late July/early August is the best time of year in this state weather-wise - very reasonable temperatures and the Great Lakes ensure that there’s little to no rain. Unfortunately, the marching arts have gradually fallen out of favor here while in Texas they’re exploding.
  10. At the rate MC is increasing their score, I wouldn’t be surprised if they do well enough over the next few weeks to make the DCI Prelims theater broadcast (i.e. Top 15 across the regionals), which would be a huge deal for them.
  11. DCI needs to have a show on this field consisting of the Blue Devils, Bluecoats, Blue Knights, Blue Stars, and (if they come back) Spirit of Atlanta (a.k.a. "Baby Blue"), complete with a "mass brass" encore where everybody plays Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65. It'll never happen, but one can dream.
  12. Curious, does anyone happen to know what specific pieces SCV is playing in their repertoire this season? I know they’ve announced some composers, but not the pieces themselves, and DCX has nothing listed for them either.
  13. Recently, I've been getting really into Marianas Trench, a Canadian pop-rock band with some really excellent albums and singles under their belt. In particular, I think the three "interludes" from their 2009 album Masterpiece Theatre would be really cool to use throughout a full show (technically the first is the album opener and the third is the closer, but you get the idea). There are tons of great "moments" in these that would translate really well onto the field. And for something a bit more straightforward, this song from the same album would be a fantastic standalone ballad in the hands of the right arranger.
  14. Unfortunately, their recent COVID woes might be dancing a little too close to this conspiracy… (Please get well soon, Cavies)
  15. How timely that there’s a show in Tupelo not long after Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis film opened in theaters. Now I’m craving an Elvis/Vegas show from the Blue Stars so that they can pick up where they left off in their Baz Luhrmann show from 2017.
  16. Depends on the situation, but I tend to lean more toward prerecorded; less risk in terms of sound balance and potential malfunctions involved. And to BK's credit, they're one of the absolute best at integrating pre-recorded vocals into shows going back to 2013 with On The Nature Of Daylight/This Bitter Earth.
  17. Oddly enough, they actually won the Zingali back in 2017. Not sure if they've had any staff changes since.
  18. Is there a full list of SCV's repertoire somewhere? I know they mentioned a couple composers before, and the title obviously references the band Nirvana, but I'd like to know what they're actually playing.
  19. It’s now been several days since we first learned of the Cavaliers’ COVID issues, so my guess is that they want to focus on rehearsing today instead of competing, especially as this Saturday will be super-important for them - wherever their score lands that day will determine when they perform the following week in SAT.
  20. Surprised no one made a thread for this show that happened last night, which is interesting because Mandarins put a huge spread on BK and Troopers passed Academy for the first time this season. Scores: World 1. Mandarins - 77.35 2. Blue Knights - 73.45 3. Troopers - 69.05 4. Academy - 68.6 Open 1. Columbians - 61.3
  21. Longtime DCI adjudicator and 2022 DCI Hall of Fame inductee Gary Markham has passed away, BOA/Music For All has confirmed. RIP.
  22. Depends on the number of corps that compete at the show too. If it’s a slightly larger show and they get most of the performances in before the rain, then they’ll release whatever scores they have and consider the couple of corps that didn’t perform as exhibitions. But since this show was on the smaller side, I guess the people in charge thought that releasing scores wouldn’t make much of a difference, so they were withheld.
