  1. Scouts 2011 takes it for me. One of the most emotionally heavy bottom-half-of-Finals shows I’ve ever seen. And while I’ll forever be mad about the ESOM sync rights, just listening to it is enough for me to say that it’s one of the best, if not the best Scouts closer this decade. Honorable mention: BK 2012, the one that established their more esoteric identity that we’ve come to know them for this decade.
  2. They did his “Fratres” in 2016, but there’s plenty of other works by him that haven’t been touched by anyone at all.
  3. All solid shows, but I chose Crossmen 2012 because it marked the start of their series of Finals appearances this decade while also being just a great show from start to finish.
  4. I’m surprised I haven’t seen that many, if any, threads reflecting on the end of this decade of drum corps, the 2010s. I know one poster said he would make something like that, but I haven’t heard much from him since then. With that said, who would like to be among the first?
  5. And not just any mellophone player, either. He played the solo for Phantom’s “Nessun Dorma” opener in 1991.
  6. I mentioned the composer once before on this thread, but here's another one by Oscar Navarro that would be a nice opener for Madison.
  7. Hi. I made a new thread so that we can talk about next year's Phantom Regiment in a thread that actually applies to them. Enjoy.
  8. Because we've needed a new thread for all the Phans (and other DCPers) to talk about what needs to be improved for next year.
  9. Warm-up violation at Prelims. BD ended up finishing 4th that night when they would have finished 2nd due to the Cadets and Bluecoats being very close behind.
  10. Interesting takeaways: Amazingly, only five corps total have beaten BD this decade. Crown has the most number of wins over BD this decade at 22, followed by Cadets at 20, Bloo and SCV tied at 18 each, and the Cavaliers a distant fifth at 9. Every corps during this span that eventually won the Championship beat BD at least 9 times. In each season that BD did not go undefeated this decade, at least two different corps beat them head-to-head at some point. (This streak probably stretches even further back; I believe 2003 was the last time BD got beaten by only one corps during the season, that of course being the Cavaliers in their early 2000s prime.)
  11. BD sort of did that in 2002, but not nearly as vibrantly as I think the Bluecoats could.
  12. It was 2004, and they actually performed that show at a Monday Night Football game in Indy.
  13. Found that out via a Tim Hinton interview last year with the Bluecoats design team.
  14. Sadly, Phantom, unless they make good staff changes in the coming months.
  15. This was actually what the Bluecoats had considered doing in 2018 before settling on the Billie Holiday theme.
  16. The website contains no information about the corps outside of the history section. It's basically become a sponsoring vehicle for the annual Portland show in early July. However, OC's Facebook is still active, with the most recent post congratulating BD on their win. DCI.org also still lists the Oregon Crusaders as a World Class corps. I hope they can come back soon, provided they make the management changes needed.
  17. Michael Cesario proposed that at the 2018 winter meetings and it was shot down by the directors, who argued that it would demean the hard work of corps that were on the verge of Finals. Not to mention, we technically already have a “Top 15” in the form of the Prelims cinecast. But all that is beside DrumManTx’s point that this was a great season from top to bottom.
  18. Not sure about the SCV example, but I know the Cavaliers' Mike McIntosh talked about it in an interview with FloMarching at San Antonio.
  19. Just checked out the recaps again, and I've come to the conclusion that Michael Stone's GE scores were pretty much the main reason why we didn't see a flip between 1st and 2nd, or between 3rd and 4th. It's not quite as obvious when you see his scores for BD and Bloo (although he was the only GE judge to put BD in 1st), but the scores he gave SCV and Crown are outliers compared to the rest of the GE panel. Whether you agree with him or not is totally up to you, but at this point, I don't care. Time for me to stop talking about scores and enjoy the rest of this mini-offseason before the staff announcements start happening.
  20. Would be interesting to see what the World Championships would be like if they still used the averaged scores from all the regionals at Prelims and the scores achieved the previous night at Semis and Finals, but randomized the order in groups of 3 every night, just like the regionals do. Same goes for Open Class championships. I know BOA does something kinda similar by announcing the finalists in random order without scores and then setting the lineup in groups of 5-7, depending on the number of finalists.
  21. Bluecoats and Phantom Regiment are also the only two championship-winning corps whose highest scores ever did not place 1st. Bluecoats achieved theirs just last night (98.238), and Phantom achieved theirs back in 1989 (98.4).
