  1. My goodness that's a good Phantom uni! Though I'm wondering if the khaki look will be a mid-show change or maybe only certain members will wear it while the others are in black (I'm thinking 2011 Cadets concept).
  2. Really this thread should have been called "I've heard it said..."
  3. I foresee corps next year diving deeper into "creative brass arranging" (My apologies in advance; that's the best term I can come up with right now. Please don't read too deep into that phrase. This is not not to imply that groups haven't been arranging their brass creatively. They have and it's been great. I'll explain more) BD and SCV both did soundscape work, but they did it through brass arranging more than through electronics. BD put soloists in the steps at different parts of the field and SCV used the small ensemble (and they were mic'ed, I know, but that aside) to creatively generate musical elements of their show using mainly the placement and arranging of their brass. Long story short, my prediction is that brass arranging will take some even bigger creative leaps this year. That was probably a pretty poor description of what I mean, but hopefully it makes sense .
  4. For sale: two sets of black and white stairways. Some assembly required. Blue hard hats not included. Call now now and we'll include a set of lightly used oversized pink ramps at a reduced price
  5. Available: 4 white geometric sculpture...things... we don't really know what they are, but hey, they light up! Free shipping to those in the Atlanta area.
  6. Is it just me, or do these lines to get in the stadium seem notably longer? posted from the DrumScorps app
  7. Vanguard is playing so cleanly it's like I can't even hear them
  8. These close views of soloists make me feel like I'm watching a Bourne movie. May have to pop a Dramamine (or just switch to high cam)
  9. Remember 2013 when Boston revealed their gray uniforms, and a trove of people (myself included) all got worried that they were making dramatic changes to their look? Good times
  10. From experience, I can say that this happens. I still have vivid memories of being terrified (running out of the room screaming) of a Phantom VHS recording as an extremely young child, and that was with nothing scary about the uniforms. I have no idea what scarred me so much except that the guard all fell down at one point and three-year-old me found that unacceptable.
  11. Wow. I'd like to say that, as someone who really is struggling to get behind this uniform trend, Madison is surprisingly not rubbing me the wrong way. If anything, I actually am interested to see Madison's in a show. Theirs is so much more than a pattern printed on a bodysuit. There are layers and pieces (layered material and zippers and the sash and gloves and such) that really make the uniform/costume look substantial and rich and not thin/cheep. Stanbury and Madison found a way, IMHO, to follow the trend but do so differently and with some distinction.
  12. This show -- maybe it's the visual, maybe it's the music, maybe it's both -- makes me think of BLAST! It's fun in a way that I can't quite put a label on, but a way that BLAST! was too. Maybe that's just me. Is it just me? Yeah ok...
  13. Quite agree. When I saw the snare go down, all I could think of was the Tilt ramps. First impression was that a lot of the drill revolved around that ramp on the front of the "jagged line", so if it does become an issue (and I hope it doesn't) it may be hard to make those changes quickly. But I am not an expert at all
  14. I'll be honest, I don't get the connection of the theme and music for either crown or bluecoats, but I don't fault the corps for that. It's more because I'm not familiar enough with the shows yet. As I see each more I imagine the connection will become more clear. And if it doesn't, I think they are still a lot of fun to watch and listen to. I certainly have the things I'd like to see changed in each one, but whether those things get changed or not (probably not) I'm still excited to see how these shows develop.
  15. The first half of the show was Down Side Up 2.0, then they took it a whole different direction. I could listen to that all day. Visually I'm not sold at all, but I said the same thing last year then was completely sold come finals week. We'll see
  16. Vocals were a little heavy for my tastes, but that may just be the theater audio mix
  17. That was weird in a way only Cavaliers could do. And I'm not sure if that's a bad thing or a really good thing. I'd tone down in the narration, but beyond that I doubt it will be long before this show wins me over
  18. Keep the second unis (with the white pants and maroon jackets) and add a shako and I'm sold. The final all cream unis, however, are way too casual looking to work for the show IMO (that is one of multiple objections to them that I have, but I'll save those for another thread). Brass has a ton of potential and the writing should develop nicely.
  19. That was fantastic for day 1. Crossmen have set the bar high. And based in my theater, sound is not an issue for the broadcast.
  20. While I have my opinions on the use of the vocals in the show, what I really think of when listening to it is Boston's "Conquest" show, but even more so. Hopefully Crown will find the correct balance with the vocals (and they have certainly shown in past years that they can). Personally, I am not a fan of the way it is being used right now, but I highly doubt that what we are hearing now will be the same as what we will hear late in the season .
  21. That Crown uni is not bad, though the clear shako/headgear/thingy seems like a bit much. The metal buckle is a nice physical piece that crown hasn't really had in a few years. The loose collar make be think BD.
  22. From DCI.org, the uniforms were designed to be "versatile enough to be used for the next few years." These aren't short term.
  23. So, forgive me if this has been brought up already (I've been unavailable recently). Boston's uniforms (apologies, but I can't get the picture attached) were unveiled today. Big diversion from their traditional look. Thoughts?
  24. In a rare turn of events, I like the drawing better than the actual photo. The shoulders are better there as well, but maybe as the more complete version comes around there will be improvements
  25. That's dissapointing. I thought the white one looked better.
