  1. She's a member. Watch the video they posted when they say that specifically as they introduce her. I always thought the "featured performer" label was terrible in the past. Just a label to keep alumni happy. I see this as step one to ease into allowing more females in the future which I hope happens!
  2. Everyone needs to get cleaner. They'll catch up. It's a more exposed show. Blue Devils, Crown, and SCV have space issues as well and will all the way through finals. I was hoping the drumcorps Reddit page still had the performance shot of Blue Devils from Finals last year as their bottom background. It was the featured picture and if you looked closely they had two tuba space issues in a hold curvilinear. No one gives them same scrutiny and I understand. They definitely had less than others, but still it's not 100% clean.
  3. Watching Denver and then San Antonio back to back, they seemed much cleaner visually. The all white and their drill exposure doesn't hide anything so they have to be ever clearer than everyone above them right now. I can't wait to see the changes.
  4. I haven't seen the show in a few weeks. Did they add their giant props yet?
  5. I've watched the video from the theater a few times and did attend one of the rehearsals at Denison last week but the show wasn't done. Here's what I'm seeing new but I haven't watched too much 80's, 90's drum corps so maybe it's been done? The prop and the ability to completely hide the entire drum corps and create unique staging/flow in and out. The hornline playing the opening underneath. How do they get time? Pit setup/spread The use of the hat as a prop for the entire hornline for the majority of their show? Battery playing under the prop and creating a battery ensemble sound I’ve never heard anyone do before. I love how it fits the feel of the original music. Genius. Quads playing at the crazy spreads they are in. Backfield micing to spread the hornline sound across the entire field while playing backfield to the corner. That's one you have to hear live. Trumpet players changing their sound with foot pedals during those solos at the end. I’m sure there’s 20 more things in their electronic/audio setup and staging demands that I’m missing and will need to see/hear more. I'm not a huge fan of the uniform but the starkness and simplicity it gives does make sense. They definitely can't hide anything wearing all white two years in a row! I'm sure it will grow on my like last year.
  6. Wait till you see the uniform. It definitely fits the show. I love it, but all the traditionalists are going to hate it!!
  7. No. I mentioned Crown, because Crown is the only corps requesting that scholarships be repaid. If you have an example of another Corps doing this, please post. Requesting money back from scholarships already given for a previous year is NOT a DCI policy.
  8. It's not just this one kid. There are others that are in the same situation after leaving Crown to march elsewhere.
  9. This is not related to Crossmen, but a kid I used to teach tried out for Bluecoats this past weekend in Ohio. He didn't make the call-back but had a very positive experience. The staff recommended that he try out for Blue Stars and offered to pass along his information if he was interested. He said that the hornline and percussion have call-backs from all camps in Ohio in January and that they finalize all spots plus alternates by the end of that January weekend. The guard is a little different since they don't come back until April.
  10. Outdated band uniforms may turn some members off. I hope more corps continue to evolve including the Cadets.
  11. I never know he was at SCV. He's not on their staff list. Seems like a big loss for both organizations.
  12. Heard that Michael Rosales is no longer with Crown per his facebook.
  13. Better show design is going to get talent and bodies in the door in November. Other than knowing that Madison rehashed a good drum corps show of Jesus Christ Superstar from 17 years earlier, how many 17-22 year olds do you think really know JCS? How many band kids in the audiences at the shows during the summer couldn't wait to hear Jesus Christ Superstar on the field? I'm hoping they attempt something new in 2017.
  14. Here's my guess based on staff changes announced and staff changes not yet announced that I know of. I'm sure I'll edit this once more pieces are finalized. 1. Blue Devils 2. Bluecoats 3. Santa Clara Vanguard 4. Cavaliers 5. Phantom Regiment 6. Carolina Crown 7. Blue Knights 8. The Cadets 9. Boston Crusaders 10. Blue Stars 11. The Academy 12. Crossmen
  15. I'm sure Crown will be fine, but to say nothing to recover from is just not accurate. You don't lose key pieces of your Percussion staff, Visual staff, Guard staff, and the drill writer and have nothing to rebuild.
