  1. Well, Brittany now of France speaks Breton, a Celtic language and cousin of Gaelic... and Brittany even had its own competitive drum and bugle corps which competed in Drum Corps Europe. But St. Joan of Arc from Lorraine, not Brittany, lived well before Brittany became French territory. I hope you are not saying you wish they don't get burnt. That would be a poor pun given St. Joan's martyrdom but would definitely give us a G.E. packed fiery ending with the announced Firebird Suite. Yet that seems more a Regiment finish.
  2. To this Easterner who will comment only because I am slightly bow-legged, it looks more like a cattle brand on fire. I was thinking the show title would be "Branded!"
  3. Actually, to look at who was press released by Hopkins, who was contacted by GH and publicly kept on the staff page even after the announcements, and who has been added on new, the "huge house cleaning" may be an over-dramatic term. Change yes; decimation no. Yes, a new drill designer, but one who marched Cadets and later taught Cadets before he was given a great opportunity to design elsewhere. He's coming home. Yes, a new caption supervisor, but again one who marched Cadets and has proven himself elsewhere. He's coming home. Yes, an new education/technique consultant who has judged DCI and BOA, has proven himself elsewhere and is on board to make sure education continues to be top rate no matter what style. So the faculty is a combination of transition, addition, and tradition to give so far: Darryl Pemberton (designer) Bob Chreste (caption head) Joe Roche (returning veteran faculty) Jason DeGroff (returning veteran faculty) Jeff Young (education/technique consultant) Jonathan Aquirre (returning veteran faculty) Kent Baker (returning veteran faculty) Conrad Isenhour Julian Johnson (returning veteran faculty) Mike Roche IMHO, that's a LOT of depth, experience, accomplishment, and flexibility for the past and the new. As GH stated, even more will be added. 4. Not quite the school the Cadets stayed in when they prepared for Championships in 1983 but not far away either. Some great Floridians have become great Cadets over the years. http://yea.org/programs/cadets/cadets/news/1115-florida-auditions-for-brass-guard-2
  5. Sounds good and sounds like Pioneer is getting ready to take a step up. Bon chance, mes amis.
  6. In 2011 dollars and construction prices, maybe U Mass building named after Geroge Parks was a similar wallet challenge. https://www.umass.edu/newsoffice/article/500k-pledged-marching-band-steps-fundraising-new-building https://www.umass.edu/sustainability/green-campus/george-n-parks-minuteman-marching-band-building
  7. Why isn't this thread on the DCA forum?
  8. Some of this is not unexpected with a new designer perhaps taking a different tack and the corps re-bounding from GE and viz. marks which didn't equal the musical rewards from the judges. Not dissing '15 drill at all...it was a beast and the corps did super well with it. Unfortunately with the CG and uni questions, they needed to be beyond any question. With some key losses due to life situations ( Jeff Sacktig, Patrick Duncan, Ben Pouncey,) a transfer to Boston for Eddy Falcon's talents, and added responsibilities for others, the new broom sweeping clean is not unanticipated. Mike Roche who auditioned in the YEA program as a high school DM for South Brunswick Vikings under the Krafts before he donned his DCI podium may be the first Crownie alum ever to teach at Cadets. This means things have gone full circle. Welcome. All of us look to be impressed.
  9. cf. Instructional Changes thread or GH's FB for major announcement. Welcome back to Joisey, Mike Roche. You've done great things since the podium for South Brunswick Vikings. Now keep it up.
  10. Fred, Do you really want drum corps to be taught by instructors without their faculties?
  11. Yah, I forgetfully left out the word "modern" and corrected myself in post 246 later.
  12. So much of DCI and DCP discussion about show theme, depth of show, the show beyond the notes of the musical score has brought the discussion of meaning. appropriateness, accessibility, multi-layering, understanding of the challenge to each performer, etc., etc. Even if this piece is too schmaltzy (good Yiddish word,) for some it may be most appropriate for the World situation of this summer and the various perspectives so many have about our times. Knowing Will Pitts, a most genuine person, he never leaves things just at surface level.
  13. Your opinion, but don't tell the Racine Kilties!
  14. Perhaps Regiment will be the first corps to field a bagpiper!
  15. For those who truly enjoy sources of music... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2wktbLNJHM It will probably be most special the last ten days of tour...
  16. Oh wait, wrong Cavs............................................................................but BOA will ban it anyway, followed by WGI, and only then by DCI. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2594147-cavaliers-reportedly-banned-team-from-using-hoverboards-at-quicken-loans-arena?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial
  17. The Tireless Twenty and Mr. Paterson as "The Dean"
  18. Hmm, seems like they are keeping that traditional Regiment color scheme: black, white, red... and no one gets killed...
  19. Note Wallace's sign-off (higlighted) in above post.
  20. Yes, they are not competing against the other big names all that much in August except for Buffalo and Indy. Missing at Bluecoats Ohio show too. But this should be discussed on a BD thread. Now back to Cadets, for instance, what is the news from Texas trip?.
  21. All right, PR has CEO once of SCV; now a Conductor from Sunnyvale, Calif. for 2016. Should put a spark to it (pun, pun.)
